Default The John Muir Trail

I have always found a facination with the outdoors, wilderness and such. Last night caught a great show on PBS on the National Parks history, and it rekindled a desire to visit some of them. Mostly the The John Muir Trail system.

One thing I have always talked about doing is taking a summer off and just traveling the states visiting off the beaten path places and writting a book on some town america and how it is still there. That is still on hold for awhile. BUT thinking of taking a vacation this summer to visit the John Muir Trail now that I am getting into photography.

Would anyone else be up to later in the summer planing a photo trip there? I was thinking that a bunch of people visiting the same place at the same time, and taking pictures, would capture so much of the natural beauty from so many different perspectives it would make for a great coffee table book.

A huge collaborate effort so to speak. From the complete armature to the seasoned pro, each picture would tell a story, a glimpse into a part of history and nature that is seen through the viewfinder of each ones lives.

Just a thought, but figured since its only Feb there would be plenty of time to have it put together.

Dennis

I'd be very interested in this depending on which part of the trail you'll be focusing on and the length of the trip (I've already got a few vacations planned this year). Or would you be going for the whole 215 miles? I'm only about four and a half hours away from Yosemite but haven't been there yet!!! Crazy right?

This is a great idea, thanks for posting it.

I have never been there, so which part, I would have no idea! That I would look to others more experienced in it for guidance. As great as the whole 215miles would be, I do not think that would be plausible.

It would be doable but then I think would be rushed a tad to get it all covered. When I do a walk like that, it tends to be a very slow observing trip.

And thanks for the input, it might actually work out..

EDIT: Also I will be out in LA for five days in Oct, that is most likely to late in the season maybe?

I can do a bit of research too if you'd like. At first glance it looks like October marks the last month of the visitor season so I think that it would work out if you'll already be in L.A. I'll pm you if I find anything else of interest. It would be great if this worked out!

I'm just going to throw this out and see what sticks. I live only a few miles from Muir's "homestead farm" in Marquette County Wisconsin. The scenery here is not as spectacular as the West and mountains, but it's here that he started it all. If anyone is truely interested in traveling to South Central Wisconsin I'll help as much as I can...Chris

I got a chance to spend one afternoon in Yosemite, and its one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. It truly is a fascinating place. I would love the chance to go back and will one day.

Tinwhistle,

I am only about 2.5 hours south of there. I would love to take a drive up in the spring and get some photos of the area!

I'll have to see how this gets along. I would be interested, but doing so, I would have to miss a Jeep Jamboree vacation to do so. I'll keep my eyes on this and see how it goes.

Thank you for the intrest so far. I am going to make sure I make this trip!

After watching the one segment of the series, I found the dvd's of the complete set and can not stop watching them! The beauty of our land is breathtaking as it is now, but what it was before the preservation of it would have been awe inspiring! Thank God for people like Muir and the others for having the insite to call for preservation!

I can not wait to walk in the same places, and see the same things these great men saw and hopefully become just as inspried as they were. The picture taking is a second thought almost, but just as important as even though there are many many pictures, not two are alike and the more that are taken the better preserved the beauty will be.
