If anyone has links to DIY projects that they have done (either your own photos of your DIY-gear or links to the page on how to build it) feel free to share those here too... and I'll also try to remember to put this poll into the DIY sticky if we get any posts about things people have made in this thread

I do DIY as much as i can get away with. Photography is an expensive hobby so anything that i can do myself and get the same results will do. Plus i have a 2 year old she like to go on climbing rampages and will get ahold of anything her lil hands can grasp. If its DIY then i can just make another one. The only things i have tho is the camera and a tripod. as far as lighting its ALL DIY. I only have an on board flash.

I love to make stuff. I have a nice lowepro camera bag, but made a ghetto box for specific use.

Ghetto Gear WooD style

Other than my SB600 my lighting system is super ghetto.

I've made a couple really nice bounce's for my flash from plans I found links from here.

My next project is going to be a lightsphere type diffuser made out of a 2 pound Planters Peanut container. I have some of that tiny bubble plastic to try for different effects. It was a real pain to get the lable off the container.

I make (create?) all sorts of DYI stuff also! Cardboard light box, use painters spotlights, paperboard deflectors! I found coloured foil wrapping paper to work well for bouncing/reflecting light in my DIY lightbox.

I'm studying physics, and happened to have a key to the optics lab, so I've played around a lot with lenses and prisms and what have you. Unfortunately, my point and shoot gets irritated when I put other lenses in front of it, but it worked very well with my mom's traditional cam.

Oh, and I've forgotten the pinhole cameras... They take fantastic images, especially if you curve the film. I don't know if that counts cause it's really really not digital at all... everything was controlled by hand and made of cardboard. I used film from my biology lab and the darkroom in there as well, which mean that the images tended to be slightly overexposed (as the film is usually used to detect a very slight signal made by flourescent tags on proteins) unless I was careful.

I also once made a long tube and covered one end of it with tissue paper in which I poked a hole. I pointed this towards the sun and projected the image onto a bit of paper in order to take pictures of sunspots without killing myself. I'm not sure if that counts as photography gear or just plain nerdiness.

I've thought about doing DIY. Then I think about the time and effort and trips to the store. Then I realize I could invest less time fixing up and selling a used computer and could simply buy the item and spend the extra time using it or looking online for the next purchase. :-)

I actually admire and have a lot of respect for the creativity I've seen with DIY. I know I'd probably get a rush after building something and then using it and having it work. But I'll stick to what I do best and enjoy doing what I love, which are computers and photography.

Thanks. I've just been so darned busy with my business and what little time I have left has been devoted to my little "studio" and learning flash and posing etc that I have no time left. It's a good problem to have.

This place sure is growing...WOW! Good to see you still around.
