Default How did this happen?

Awhile back I set my camera up on tripod to take a photo of my husband and I. And I got this.....

8 second exposure where he walked into the frame while the shitter was open...I have one similar when my little girl ran through the frame when I was taking a pic of the tree.

Wouldn't he be a blur if he walked through the frame? He is not a blur, but reasonably sharp, albeit ghostlike. I think it looks like the flash was on slow sync.

Some cameras on slow shutter speeds take two flashes, one as the shutter opens, and one just before the shutter closes. He was captured by the first flash. The second flash balanced the exposure to the room.

I'm not sure how this happened on digital. I have ghostly shots like this from when I used to double expose film back in the day. Kind of a fun happenstance in any event.
