Default RAW, shutter speed, apeture

I take photos in JPEG mode & don't know how to change the mode; the same with saving & editing - I've read that in JPEG mode u lose some with every edit, but how can I change this to RAW mode? - I have FUJI S1000. Also, for shutter speed it goes 1.3, 1.6, 2 & up , but if I go lower then 1.3, it goes to 1", 1.3", etc up to 8" . Aperture goes only from F2.8 to F6.4 & it's a capital F, not lower case, although in tutorials Darren speaks of it in lower case and higher settings. Can someone please explain it to me & how do I get the replies? My e-mail address is TBecker56@yahoo.com & I have no idea how to look up an answer in forum. Sorry for my ignorance, but I wld like to learn.
Thnx n b.rgds, Tanya Becker

Welcome to the forum.

That camera is not capable of shooting in RAW format.

The shutter speed range is 8 seconds - 1/2000 second.

The aperture range is f/2.8 - f/8 (this will vary depending on the current focal length of the lens). Point and shoot cameras typically do not have the capabilities of a dslr class camera.

- Your camera doesn't have RAW as an option, you can only use jpeg file format.

- The shutter speed of 1.3 (I assume this is how you camera displays it) actually means 1/1.3 seconds, 1.6 is actually 1/1.6 seconds, and so on. As you lower the shutter speed, your camera adds a second sign ("). So, 1" is one second, 2" is two seconds, etc..

- The minimum and maximum apertures depend on your lens. For your camera, maximum aperture is f2.8 at wide angle end, and f5 at telephoto end. Minimum aperture is f8.
It doesn't matter that the f is a capital F, it's just the way Fuji writes it.

And take it easy, you'll figure it out.
