Hello there.

My name's Tyler. I just started becoming really interested in photography, and I found this website through the Firefox application 'StumbleUpon'.

I'm interested in photography, primarily, because of my love of nature. Hopefully, I will be able to take photos during upcoming vacations and journeys. It's only about 0 degrees Fahrenheit here, so it's a little cold right now, but in the spring and summer it will warm up and become nice enough to stand being outside.

I love music. I write music, and I play guitar and saxaphone. I'm looking for a cello teacher, too. Some of my favorite musicians are Dream Theater, Protest the Hero, Meshuggah, Xerath, Cynic, Opeth, Aeon Spoke, Porcupine Tree, Anton Webern, Igor Stravinsky, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, Henry Purcell, Bach, Niccolo Paganini, Allan Holdsworth, Larry Carlton, Ben Monder, Cristophe Rime, Jami Sieber, and Susana Baca. That's just a few I pulled from each category; I'm into a very wide variety of stuff. Not your average 15 year old male's list, at least not where I live!

I also love to write and read. Right now I'm reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman, A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin, and Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay.

I look forward to learning photography, and have already started learning about the exposure triangle and a lot of other elements of the photo. I have a Facebook account, so my first 'project' is going to be to stop using text to post statuses, and only using pictures to convey my thoughts and feelings after a long day of school. I think it's a good idea.

See ya around. ^_^

P.S.: I'm having trouble with aperture, like I'm sure most beginners do, at first. It seems like, on my father's camera (a Sony DSC-F707) aperture doesn't really affect the depth of field. Going from f2.8 to f8.0, the only differences are difference in the amount of light in the picture. Only when I turn on macro do I get a drastically blurred background (when I need to take a very close shot). On aperture priority, shutter speed priority, and manual, the results are the same. I have it set to auto-focus, and I don't use the focus ring near the lens at all. I'm very new, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any suggestions?

The F707 is an older camera and NOT a dSLR. Because of this, the sensor used in it is very small. As a result, the depth of field doesnt change much. This isnt too related to the camera or lens but to the sensor.

Its hard to get a P&S camera, no matter how advanced, to throw the background out of focus.
