Hello DPS-ers,
I'm pretty new to DPS, but I've really enjoyed the community here, seeing everyone's photos and getting to share a few of my own so far. I'm currently getting my master's degree in Library and Information Science, and this term I'm taking a cataloging class! Each student is supposed to choose a collection of items to organize and catalog, and design a system with a database software that will do so. Most people in my class chose books, but I decided to be different and catalog uploaded digital photos. I had to do a good bit of convincing of my professor to allow me to catalog something non-tangible. However, in order to make it more authentic, I need some actual digital images to analyze and write about. I need 10 sample images, and wanted to work with images that aren't mine. If any of you all would be interested in participating, I would be very grateful! Please feel free to either reply to this thread or message me with your photo (any type of photograph is fine) and the following information: - the actual image or link to image - EXIF data (need shutter speed, aperture, ISO, focal length) - camera brand - name of photographer (your name) - your nationality - city, state/province, and/or country that photo was taken in (if possible) This project will not be published or made public, so your photos will not be put anywhere that you don't want them to go. I am writing a 25-30 page paper and making a database just for the class, so there shouldn't be any copyright violations or anything of that sort. If you participate I will happily show you the final result when it's finished in May! Thanks for your help, and for reading through all this. much appreciated! Jessica

Hi Jessica,
Looks like we're not counting 10 just yet, so I'm hoping this one is useful too. I thought I'd spread out the international reach of this request. ![]() Click picture above for link to original EXIF/Camera details: Camera: Nikon D40 Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/320) Aperture: f/10.0 Focal Length: 18 mm ISO Speed: 200 Photo by Karwash, the Netherlands Location of picture: Mookerhei, Gelderland, the Netherlands, roughly roundabout here: Mookerhei - Google Maps

Only ten? Is that going to be enough to test and demonstrate your system? I would have thought a larger number would be better, although you might then choose to focus on ten or so specific cases (particularly "edge cases" which demonstrate particular problems you had to solve).
You could get a source of pictures from Flickr, searching for images under a suitable Creative Commons licence. Most of the information you are looking for should be easy to retrieve. Wulf |
