I'll be in San Francisco next Wed. Just wondering if there are some interesting places to check out, besides the touristy thing.

I always suggest the Wave Organ. It's is a great place, off the beaten path, and gives you wonderful shooting views of the Golden Gate and Alcatraz. Read this:

San Francisco's Wave Organ

It is also near a yacht club so you should be able to get some nice shots of sail boats passing by very close.

To get to the wave organ you need to go to Crissy Field. When you park there you walk along the path beside the bay AWAY from the Golden Gate. It is all the way at the end of a jetty. You can't miss it. You'll walk into the bay if you try to pass it.

There are a lot of different districts also. You can have a theme each day. Try to check out Marin County also. the other end of GGB. In fact, if you see a sunny day during your visit (hahaha) try to get to Mt. Tam. It is THE best spot for a beautiful sunset. And there's nothing wrong with doing the tourist thing either. They know where all the shots are!
Have fun.

Baker beach is on the west side of the golden gate, so usually have your back to the sun, which is nice. problem is its all ways windy and almost al lways FREEZING there because of the wind and fog. bring a jacket. However, because its so cold you almost al lways have the beach somewhat to yourself.

this was march of 08. see empty beach ! :>
