Question How did you feel?

Question for DPS...
How did you feel when you started refusing to give friends pictures for free?
There has been a few request for photos that I have taken out here. I don't really feel right giving them away anymore. I told those people that I don't give them away anymore and there were kind of upset. I felt kind of bad but... I just don't feel right giving them away!

Get over it I know how you feel. Or you can use the barder system. They might have something you want. Like when you pull into port, have them stand your watch That's what I did when I was in the Navy when someone wanted one of my pixs.

I haven't started saying "no" across the board.

My photos are not all equal -- some I take with the intent of giving away. They are not my best artwork, but they usually are of sentimental importance for some reason (documenting family events, for example). I give those away freely.

Others, like those which I take with the intent of creating some kind of art, are just clearly not available for free. They're so different from the "here, take a copy!" ones, and I offer them for sale on my photo selling site (which everyone knows about), so nobody asks.

So, by creating that attitude, it hasn't been a problem.

Good point. When I'm out on assignment and see a great feature photo, sometimes I'll send a freebee to the person I'm shooting, if they ask.

Well, in this case I don't think I wanted to give any away. I do understand. There are times that I would give photos away, like if I were taking photos of family or something. But, this was an event. Celebrities visited our ship. Everytime there is an even people come to me because they know I got good photos of the event. I just don't think I wanted to give these away.

I understand -- I wasn't trying to imply that you should have. What I was saying is that I have a dividing line -- it's not just all or nothing. Your dividing line is different (really, you're in a situation I've never been in!), and that's fine. The point is that it's not all-or-nothing.

Good point...
My dividing line is different, especially out here...

Thanks!
