Default NYIP - just enrolled

so i did a lot of research for photography schools online and came across quite a few. the 2 most mentioned were NYIP - Photography | Photography School | New York Institute of Photography | NYIP and The Photography Institute and i ended up researching both quite a bit. i didnt find too much information about The Photography Institute and what i was finding about NYIP wasn't always the best either. most comments were in reguard to the material being dated and slow turn-around times. well, i finally made the decision to order the NYIP kit thinking that i couldnt go wrong with it either way. it just arrived a couple days ago and i've just started the first lesson so i'm going to keep updating this as i go. all the research i did, i didnt find many comments that were very recent. for those of you who are interested in the program and were holding off because of the out-dated material or something, i can say that the material has been updated completely. the pictures are all from the last few years, the reading is easy to understand, and it's all packaged very well. the only downside that i've noticed so far is the audio cd's. i havent listened to many of them, but i find my mind wandering a bit when listening to them. in my opinion, they should be video cd's, even if it's the same audio of them just sitting in a conference room talking. it would give more feel of interaction and would be easier to concentrate on listening to them. so, anyway, i just wanted something new out there for anyone looking for an online course. i will keep this thread updated as i go and will try to keep it detailed as well about what i like and dont like and what i feel could be changed. oh, and a little background on me...i'm 27 with a family and working full time (hence the reason for the online course,) just bought my Rebel XSi in May and didnt really start using it until August 2009. i havent been shooting long, but i've already learned a lot. i was just looking for something to take my pictures to the next level, and i think this will do that and more. so, wish me luck!!! please feel free to leave comments or questions at any time!!

Thanks for the info! I've been contemplating taking this myself. Keep going back and forth. Please keep us updated with your thoughts on the program.

I bought this course several years ago. I worked full time and had a family to care for, so I just couldn't get the lessons done in the 2 year time frame (what ever it was at the time). Like you I just wanted to take my picture taking to a better level. This course definetly did that. My daughter insisted I take her senior photos. She was thrilled. She could have as many outfit changes as she wanted (hahaha), I took as many shots as we could think of, her friends wished I'd taken their senior photos, and I basically made the course expense back by not paying for a "professional" (because not all professionals should be calling themselves professionals) to take the senior photos. Although I wasn't able to benefit from very many critiques from the instructors, I read all the material and learned so much. I continue with that here on DPS. Wishing you success!

Default Congratulations

Congratulations on embarking on this adventure! I am very interested in hearing what you think of the course as i am contemplating doing something similar. Are you going to update this thread or just post a new thread? Because if you're going to update this particular thread then i will subscribe to it so i don't miss a report. Again, congrats and good luck!
