Default How to get listed on Google Image Search

I have tried almost everything now trying to get my images to appear on Google Image Search. The blog I have ( World of Rikluz ) stores the images in a public picasa album.

I don't care how to improve the image ranking at this point. All I want for now is to get listed at all! When searching for site:rikluz.blogspot.com on regular search, it lists all the posts I have made. Doing the same on image search returns nothing. Not even when seaching for specific alt texts works.

Somehow the 3 images from one single blog post appear on the image search but I don't know how that happened.

Would appreciate if anyone has experienced similar problems with Blogger & Picasa could point me in the right direction.

I'm not entirely sure how it works, but have noticed that the pics of mine coming up in google search are those posted on flickr that have the most views. So I assume it picks the pictures that it thinks are popular to appear. The good thing about posting on flickr too is that you can add all relevant keywords so again I think google finds it easy to select relevant images from there.

I'm not sure how you would improve the chances of blog images coming higher up in the google image searches, though.

Yes I know that flickr images appear on google image search and so should the images from public picasa albums. There I could add keywords to the images as well... Humm, I should do that! But still, I find it strange that the google doesn't find my images through the blog. Thats what the alt tags are for, to help the search engine find the images.

Maybe I need to give it more time but I don't think the google image search is that much slower at indexing than normal search. Haven't seen any permission settings that could block it either.

I have set keywords in Picasa now for the latest image just to test how it works. But then they will be directed to the Picasa album and not the blog itself from image search and thats not what I'm hoping for. Would like to get more returning visitors to the blog.

As far as I know google doesn't read image metadata.

So you need to sort need keywords on your site, not in picasa. Also, give the files appropriate names that match the keywords. i.e. smiling_man.jpg and not dsc1200232.jpg

Remember it will usually takes a few weeks for any changes to be picked up by google.

When searching for images on Google Image Search you will get the correct results even if the filenames look like garbage. Better naming on images would only increase the image ranking but not the visibility itself I think.

Also, it's better to name the image "smiling-man.jpg" and not "smiling_man.jpg". With just - between the words the seach engine will read that as "smiling man" but when you use _ instead it will only be found when searching for "smiling_man".

Yeah I know, should be more patient really. Some posts have been online for 2 month but I tried solving the Image Search issue maybe only 2 weeks ago. Difficult to know if the changes I have made had any effect though when I have to wait a few weeks to see any results.

Surely a higher image rank equals higher visibility?

Interesting, I'll give it a try myself.

That would be true if the images showed up in the search in the first place. But they don't and thats my main issue at the moment. I could optimize my blog for the search engines all I want but they would still not appear if they are not listed.
