Default Pentax K1000

My wife bought a nice Pentax K1000 camera for me at an estate sale. She thought she was doing something nice for me, but didn't realize that a film camera is the last thing I need or want. So, I want to sell it and buy some equipment for my digital camera. Or, maybe some flowers to make up for hurting my wife's feelings (LOL). In looking through the Net, I see that this is actually an ideal camera for a student or a person just learning photography. The prices vary considerably. Does anyone know what price I should ask? Thanks.

You will be lucky to get more than 50 bucks for it depending on the lens you might get lucky and get $100. One of the reasons is that the K1000 has a cloth shutter and at its current age that thing has very little, if any, life left. BTW my first camera was a K1000 - that was in 1974.

+1. If it just has the 50mm with it, I have seen it as low on CL as $35.00 I inherited a K1000 when one of my brothers passed away. It still has a roll of 1/2 exposed film in it. Luckily, it's still seems to be working well. I did snap a couple of frames, and don't feel anything weird about it. It, of course, will not be sold. It's priceless to me.

You really won't get much for it. If you can't garranty that it is fully funtional, you will get even less for it. Is it the Japanesse made Pentax K1000? Or is it the later Chinesse model? The Japanesse model was made by Asahi Optical. It will have the name Asahi and Pentax on the penteprism. The Chinesse model will say only Pentax. The Chinesse model is newer. But it's worthless to most collectors. If I were you I'd keep it just as a display piece.

It's the Japanese model and has a 70mm lens. If I can't get at least 50 out of it, I'll donate it to a local photography school. I hear it's a great camera for students. Thanks everyone.
