Recently received the "Error 99" code, so I'm selling the camera for repair or parts.

In it's current state, it will not function to it's full capacity(ie: take pictures reliably). It'll take pictures without a lens flawlessly!


The DSLR is in fantastic condition otherwise. 2 years young~ Babied and loved!. Minor body scratches, like slight chipping of grip near bottom. The 18-55mm lens does not have an auto-focus. Worked fine till a week ago. Never showed any signs of problems.

• Camera body(error 99)
• Camera lens(EF-S 18-55mm IS lens - manual only) with lens cap
• UV Filter(attached to lens)
• Camera strap(attached to camera body)

I got the same error on my Canon Rebel XS. Luckily, mine was still within warranty and Canon repaired it for me. Err 99 is a catch-all error though, and mine persisted despite a change or removal of lenses. It sounds like your issue may be related to your lens, if the issue goes away when you remove the lens. Have you tried with other lenses? Click my username to check my blog for more info on what happened with my camera. Also, google "err 99" and go to the "Richard's Notes" blog link. His site has inadvertantly become a troubleshooting place for hundreds of Canon users that have experienced the dreaded "err 99". Sometimes something as simple as cleaning your lens contacts with a pencil eraser solves the issue. Of course, this is all only relevant if you're interested in trying to repair your camera as opposed to just giving up on it!

one of mine did that as well, I sent into Canon, they said the shutter went out.... Fixed it for about $220
