It seems that Mr. Daniel Wang, the author of the above "Gear For Sale" listing, who communicated with me multiple times daily as we negotiated a price for the 18-135, has decided to sever all communications now that I have sent him $160 via PayPal. We were emailing right up until the very hour I sent him funds. And now it seems that Mr. Wang has disappeared. I've sent four emails, one-a-day, and ALL have been unanswered. I suppose that there's a very small chance that Mr. Wang is out of town or, for some unexplained reason, unable to respond, and he's already shipped my new lens to me and it'll arrive today and I'll be humiliated for posting such a scathing description of his integrity. Or, lack of therein. And pigs will fly out of my buttocks, gas prices will plummet, and our beloved two-party system of government will crumble! As much as I hate to say it. My level of trust has been marginally degraded. But, my DPS friends, I've given it over to God. It is in HIS capable hands as we speak. My life will go on and I'll continue to bask in true joy. Albeit with a wee bit less trust for my fellow man. Who knows what Mr. Wang will bask in. Thanks! Bakeys Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ ....Matt. 25:40 |

Maybe I should have added this:
I filed a dispute with PayPal. They encouraged me to wait 7 days, but I felt the circumsances described above merited a bit sooner action than that. Now I sit and wait. They attempt contact a few times and if no response, they'll tap the account for whatever's in it. I think this will happen near 17 January. Why do I get the feeling it'll be empty?! Again, it's in much more capable hands than mine!

That email address was a dead give away for me, without even reading your full post and just reading the listing I had a pretty decent idea of what happened.
Where was the item listed? It obviously wasn't ebay, was it a local ad or did you order off of something like craigslist outside of your community. I wouldn't buy anything like that, if I am dealing with someone I can't physically meet to make the transaction with I would have to use something like Ebay where I can at least get an idea of your record and some basic hope of resolving any potential issues. Too bad you got burned but caveat emptor. |

No offense here, but....
A. Did you check out the OP's post count of 3, when the ad was posted? B. Did you look at those 3 posts, to see if they had any kind of reputation here? C. Did you notice that 2 of those posts were the same thread, and 1 of the posts was from the "sale" thread? D. Did you notice the first thread they are talking as an amateur, not knowing much about lenses....but in the "sale" thread they stated they just upgraded to "pro glass" These all triggered flags with me...not to mention the prices seem a little low... I do feel bad for you, but it doesnt hurt to check someones profile before acting.... just my 2c's Last edited by DivotMaker; 12-30-2010 at 10:56 PM. Reason: {handslap} spelling error |

Kuvahmagh - the listing was right here on DPS - Gear For Sale Thread - That's where the quote came from.
DivotMaker - Ironically, I actually noted that this "gentleman" was a Newbie to DPS. I briefly flagged it as a consideration but then ignored the flag. As previously stated, I generally see the good in all people. I really try hard not to consider someone whom I've never met to be a scheister. I guess I'm just the eternal optimist that thinks that all people subscribe to the "do unto others" rule like I do my best to do. Even following through your A-D list I would have allowed the benefit of the doubt and proceeded onward trusting another to do the right thing. Call me a sucker I guess. ![]() But I am a very blessed sucker nonetheless!

I have to admit the Ninja handle would have sent me fleeing off the backside of the deal but I'm a certified pessimist with little faith in my fellow man. Paypal should get your funds back if not directly then via their insurance but I'd say don't kick yourself too much. There is NO one on the planet who can't be burned just varying degrees and repetitions.
Good luck and sorry about that. D

Divot - not you calling me a sucker.....me feeling like a sucker for getting taken.
Zephod - I suppose we offset each other in the faith/no faith in fellow man category. Takes all kinds and together we'll make the world go 'round! Noteworthy - I've been following the "Gear For Sale" thread. Another guy sent him an email inquiring about a lens, Mr. Integrity responded and said he had it and it was in pristine condition! So it looks like Mr. Wang is still in business and not off for the last five days tending to his dying mother or some other tragedy that would actually merit not sending me a lens and taking my money! James 5:12 ~ Above all, my brothers, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned. So I suppose getting burned has given me an opportunity to indulge myself in a bit of scripture spreading. So, a little honey to go with the bitter. Thanks all for support and listening! Bakeys |
