I have been sorting out my old photo equipment and want to sell some of it to make room for more—ahem.
For those of you with experience, can you please tell me, what venue is the best place to sell photo equipment: Craig’s List, Flickr, eBay, DPS—or? Thanks for your help. |

If it were me I'd list through Ebay and then put a link here. I don't really trust things like craigslist etc since I have no real guarantee where as if I buy something off ebay through paypal it is covered.

I've had the best success dealing locally. With ebay you get about a 15% ebay seller fee, and then the paypal fee, so you're loosing quite a bit of money when it comes to selling more expensive items. On items that I have sold, I typically listed locally and here as well, but only found buyers locally on craigslist.
People are a lot more trusting (and are willing to pay their full worth) when you can take quality photos of your equipment. Scammers rarely leave contact info or even pictures when they "sell" items. So I'd first watch a few of the items on ebay to see the average going rate that something sells for (not including shipping, not buy it now prices, but actual auctions that are bid on), and when I have a good feel for it, I list it locally for close to that price. When selling on craigslist, I typically include my phone number and leave no email for them to reply (eliminating emails from nigeria), and I like to meet in outdoor public places with favorable lighting. I love finding used equipment and trying it out, and have sold a lot of used equipment as well. I've never had a problem with strangers from craigslist. My ads do a lot better and sell quickly when I provide plenty of information that help people in making their decisions about which equip would be right for them, and when selling a camera I typically offer a quick lesson on how to use the camera.

Which film cameras are you looking for? Old AF cheepos to mess around with like N2000-N8008, N50-N90, FM, EM, or older professional bodies?

I have only sold items locally via Craig’s List, so I do not know how a long distance sale could safely and properly work. Anyone ever use Flickr? The eBay fees are a bit ever the top. |

You can do it all through paypal. Send money, list in the description what it is for. Paypal has buyers protection, so you can dispute a payment if the seller scams you, and when you sell something with paypal, you dont ship it until the payment clears.
