First allow me to apologize for missing last weeks challenge. I have a good excuse! Really!!
Now, for this weeks Classic Rock Challenge, I would like to share a dark & deep secret I've been carrying with me for years & years. I felt this was good time to get it off my chest once & for all. You have all been so nice to me over the last year or so & I feel comfortable sharing this with you. So here goes!! I REALLY LIKE THE MUSIC OF GINO VANNELLI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know, I know, this will probably get me kicked out of the "Going Bald But Still Cool Club". But I don't care! I got it off my chest & I'm a better man for it! My story probably isn't all that different than most. The year was 1979. Me & my friends were young & fearless. Driving around, cruising the streets, making the scene, if you will, listening to Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, AC/DC & bands of that nature. Then one day I met the most beautiful woman in the world. Her name was Lori. She was everything I could hope for in a woman. We shared many of the same interests. Things were going great for the first 6 months or so. Then things started to change. It all started out very innocent & all. I would run into the store to get something she wanted & when I got back to the car, she would have changed the radio station to that soft rock channel. At first I would notice right off the bat. I told her that it's my car & we listen to my channel!!! Well, needless to say, that went over like a lead balloon. She kept doing it though, & as time went on, it would take me longer & longer to notice that she had changed the channel. Finally I just gave up all together. What can i say? I was smitten from her beauty & was completely in her control. Then, as young lovers often did in those days, we got an apartment together. Life was grand! I was on top of the world!! Then she hit me with the big question. No, not the "Are you ever going to marry me?" question. It was the "Are you ever going to let me play MY albums on your stereo?" question. I instantly broke into a big sweat. This was the question I never wanted to hear!! If I gave in I would have to listen to stuff like Gordan Lightfoot & America on my stereo!! What would the neighbors think? I finally gave in though. It was either that, or sleep on the couch. What would you do? Then one day she came home with a new album. "The Best of Gino Vannelli". She bought it because she liked the front cover. She played that album over & over & over. It drove me nuts at first. Then, as time went on, I caught myself tapping my toes to the song "People Gotta Move". MY GOD, WHAT HAS THIS WOMAN DONE TO ME!!! I'VE COMPLETELY LOST MY MANHOOD!!! Well, I finally resigned myself to the fact that life will never be the same. Just when I was actually starting to like that album, the inevitable happened. She dumped me!! Can you believe it?!! I changed my ways for this woman! I listened to her soft rock channel. I started putting the toilet seat down, for cryin' out loud!! The hardest part was splitting up the albums. We were grabbing albums that we knew the other wouldn't want. Then it happened. We both grabbed that Gino Vannelli album at the same time. We looked into one anothers' eyes & she did it again. I fell prey to those luscious green eyes of hers & gave in. There I was, a mere morsel of the man I once was. After that, I walked the streets aimlessly. Trying to figure out exactly who I was. Where would life lead me? Oh sure, there was the occasional "Hard Rock Chick" that would enter my life now & then. But Lori had changed me forever. I was a different man now. Then one night as I was roaming the streets aimlessly, trying to figure out just how I would meet another one like her, I passed by an open doorway that led into a bar. emanating from the bar were those smells of tobacco, stale beer, & salted peanuts, & the sweet jazzy funk sounds of "Mama Coco" coming from the juke box. That was it! It wasn't the woman that I missed so much! It was that album! I had to have it! So the next day I went out & purchased it, & life has been good ever since. Sure, there have been bad days, but I could always go home & put that album on the stereo & it would bring me out of my funky mood. Over the years I've replaced that original "Best of" album with the newer "The Ultimate Gino Vannelli" album. But it's all the old favorites with some newer songs. There's a lesson to be learned here for all you young Head Bangers & Thumpers. Thumpers are those people you hear coming down the street long before you see them. Some day, no matter how cool you think you are, some woman is going to have you listening to Clay Aiken(that's the guy from American Idol, right?) & you will eventually learn to like it. This little coming out party of mine was inspired by Peeperita. She & her Hubby went to a Gino Vannelli show & she took some wonderful shots. One of which you can find here. torched heavens... So, this weeks' Classic Rock Challenge is dedicated to Peeper & her Keeper. ![]() "The Ultimate Gino Vannelli" ![]() 1. Appaloosa 2. I Just Wanna Stop 3. Living Inside Myself 4. You would just take 1 of the song titles & find a picture you have taken that fits the title. It can be something literal such as, a shiny black sports car for the song title "Black Cars". Or you may want to interpret it on a different level all together, such as Amy-Rose has done in a very cute fashion, or Elay has done in a...........well, in a not so cute way.
