The rules are simple, edit the image anyway that you see fit, you can chamge the colors, change the content, add images, delete images, anything you want to do to it. But, you must post the steps you took to get to your final image.

This challenge is as much about learning as it is about sharing with others so that they may learn.

If you would like to submit a photo for the challenge please pm a medium sized image (all ready in html code is a big plus) and also a link to a larger version. Thanks

Meet Mittens!

All it took were the words, "Mommy, those look like kitty cat ears!" from my 5 yo to transform this lovely canoe into Mittens. (FYI, shoot me in the head before I try to do another one as elaborate as this one, ok?!)
I did this yesterday, and there were a lot of steps. I'm stretching my brain to remember.

Opened image, copied canoe, opened new transparent layer, copied canoe, rotate vertically, transform the canoe to get the lower portion of the cat head, create new layer, cloned the water to get the eyes, painted out eyelids in black, free selected the nose from the water, copied, pasted the nose and colorized pick, used color picker to get the correct color for the mouth, painted on mouth. Thought I was basically done, then decided to create the body. I must have been crazy. Copied canoe, created new transparent layer, pasted canoe, rotated vertically, transformed to get half of body and legs, duplicated the layer, scaled slightly to get the back legs, copied the guy, pasted him in a new layer, scaled him to make the tail (yes, it's a little sick and wrong, I admit), used the paintbrush to create the collar, created the tag in a new layer and wrote "Mittens" on her tag, created a new white layer and masked out anything I didn't want, did a perspective shadow behind her. Finally quit messing around with it, and decided I was done!

PS - Douglas, I LOVED this picture. It's absolutely beautiful.

What Would You Do #128a

I didn't have any particular goal in mind for this image. I think this canoeist has stumbled upon a top secret military experiment.

In Paint Shop Pro:
  • Used the Pinch effect to adjust the perspective of the image.
  • Added a sunset image on a new layer set to Difference to create the black sphere and clouds.
  • Added the sunset image again, flipped it and applied motion blur to create a reflection.
  • Added a cloud texture layer set to Overlay.
  • Isolated the canoeist in a new layer and set to Burn to maintain the silhouette effect.
  • Copied the merged image a couple of times, applied some random artistic effects and merged with the rest of the image with various blends.
  • Applied noise reduction and adjusted the color balance.

Basically cut out the canoeist, added to a background of a stock photo of a lava flow, some selective erasing with a little lightly on the opacity around the base of the canoe and a small inner glow of redish/orange... all done with Photoshop CS3 (which I'm still learning).

First post and LOVE this thread!
