Default What Would You Do? 125

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm all out of submissions so I used another one of my older images for you guys to play with. (hint, hint, I need more photos)

The rules are simple, edit the image anyway that you see fit and then post the steps you took to get to your final image.

This challenge is as much about learning as it is about sharing with others so that they may learn.
Now, let's see what you would do!
bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Open bee image, open book image as layer, masked bee image, created hex image in different file (filter - render-patterns-hex grid) typed "How to build a beehive" in a new layer and used the pinch feature, duplicated the writing 8 times and put it in all hexes, opened book as layer under hexes, merged down, Selected around hexes and copied, opened a new layer in bee picture and pasted hexes, scaled and adjusted, selected around hexes and created a border of 2 pixels by selection, filled with black, increased the image canvas, inserted a new black layer and moved to bottom, Wrote "Carpenter Bee Training", cropped, flattened. I'm sure there were a bunch of little things I didn't include.

Sorry about that, I think I have it fixed now.

Here is what i did this morning: First thing was to add the rotating mirror effect. Played around witht he setting suntil I got an image I liked. Cropped. Next added Sphere effect with Ellipse setting. Noise removal, on a sperate layer added Fractalious and lowered the opcaity
And you have a new species of bug in a clear cocoon

this one had me stumped since i liked it so much already.....

here goes....

wwyd 125

i wanted a more summery feel.....first thing was to add a splotch of light gold to the bee's black bits to lighten them and well, get them all golden.....then i applied a radial gradient layer mask to select the background and darken it a bit with a multiply .....repeated this step as the background got more saturated....just not enough.....created more detail in the bee by applying accented edges to him with thin but bright accents of lightest yellow....

i guess i just didn't have it in me this morning.....

abcd

Thought I'd try some selective colouring
Duplicate times 2...A and B
A at top add alpha channel convert to B&W
move B to top,Bee selected
move A to top, delete and merge
Sharpen with unsharp mask

What Would You Do #125

This was a lovely photo without much room for improvement, so I went with something abstract.

In Paint Shop Pro:
  • Cropped the image slightly.
  • Duplicated the original image and applied noise reduction.
  • Applied the High Pass edge effect, then adjusted brightness/contrast.
  • Duplicated the layer and applied the Find All edge effect, adjusted brightness contrast, and set the new layer to Multiply.
  • Added two duplicate layers of the original image, one set to Overlay, the other to Soft Light.
  • Adjusted layer visibilities until I was happy with the result.
  • Merged the layers and applied some additional noise reduction.
