Edited on Gimp
1. Duplicated the layer, and set the Layer Mode to "Hard Light"
2. I then desaturated this second layer, and fiddled with the contrast
3. I created a new layer, and pasted this texture onto it.
4. Then I changed the layer mode to soft light

Hope you like it

Link to larger image takes to private Flickr...

Actually not too dissimilar in concept to what inquiries did. I was shooting for more of an old Polaroid/postcard kinda feel.

Took the original and did a faux gimp HDR inspired process:
1) Duplicate layer twice
2) Took top layer, lightened it, set a inverse greyscale layer mask, and adjust opacity
3) Took middle layer, darkened it and over saturated it, and set greyscale layer mask, and adjusted opacity
4) Sharpened top two layers

I decided it was still missing something, so I decided to add some grain and faint vignetting,

5) Duplicated original twice again
6) Took vignetting layer on top, selected a circle around the fruit, created and blurred a selection mask, set layer mode to multiply and adjusted the opacity
7) Took the grain layer, desaturated it, added a ton of HSV noise, and set layer mode to overlay

Pasted fish image and used the pick tool set to free to shape the face to fit the cactus. Oh yea, forst thing I did was to mirror the image. Next erased all areas of the fish and made sure to lower the opcaity as I got closer to the stem. Used the lasso tool to pick some of the spikes. Copied and pasted. Arranged them where I wanted and erased slightly at the bottom. Added drop shadows. Next added in the whale tale by a simple copy and paste as a new layer. erased areas. Added in a new sky and changed blend mode to overlay. Added in the Flaming Pears Flood tool and erased slightly the horizon to blend it in

Inverted colors, flipped the pictures upside down, removed the "fruit" portion and moved it to the corner, copied one of the cactus spines, pasted the new spine in a new transparent layer, adjusted the colors, duplicated the spine layer several times and resize and positioned each layer, rotated the fruit, cropped, added a texture over the fruit and reduced the opacity. Flattened.

Aussie cactus(sorry in advance to the Australian members!!!)

aussie

Internet kangaroo...isolated, and sized
pasted into the cactus picture,
altered the colours a bit.
Flipped vertically...because they're upside down.

(I also believe the earth is flat)

Hey Douglas, I love the serenading cactus! LOL, it cracks me up!

Windrider, yours reminds me of an old sci fi called Them... Giant ants attack LA. Great idea...

Naeno, I'm kind of in a Star Wars kind of mindset after seeing yours. Great job!

Such creative people in these threads.
