Nice job Wolf. I like the way you brought the bugs inward and made them the focal point.

![]() 1. Duplicated so I didn't mess up the original. 2. Make two more duplicates. Desaturate bottom one. 3. Select > Color range > Reds. then I made a mask of just the reds. so only the red would show. 4. New layer. Filter>render>clouds. Put the layer on overlay. 5. New layer. Use the pen tool to make some swurves. add some drop shadows, outer glow, inner glow, bevel, and color over lay to get the right green for the swurves. add a few dots to the layer 6. Crop so there is more of a center of interest in the photo. 7. Merge the layers except for the top two 8. Duplicate. Create a mask for the background. slight guassian blur 9. Merge visble layers. increase canvas size to create boarder with green and black. 10. flatten. The End. ^^

I love my Canon Rebel XSi and use it when I can, but my little Canon SD750 will forever be my first baby whom I will never neglect. http://www.flickr.com/photos/animekiti4christ/ |

Entomophobic.... a fear of bugs anyone? (jk)
Windrider.... Would never have thought of spinning the buggers around like that! Nice! Animekiti... See you brought the focus closer too. Like the idea of emphasizing the red coloration.

I was inspired to make thse guys look more like fruit because of the flickr comment on this pics flickr page.
I first selected the wings only from one bug. I tinted them green, then copied....pasted....adjusted...pasted...adjusted.. .... Added some blur the the bugs in the fore/background. Then the others were clone painted over.

I'm new to lightroom so I'm still trying to find a middle ground between over editing and improving the original image. My first attempt was a bust- over edited with too much contrast, etc.
This one is better- instead of increasing the clarity all the way, which I tend to do on most pics trying to get a sharp image, I decreased the clarity a bit in hopes of drawing more attention to the bugs and away from the flowers. I increased the reds and blacks and decreased the exposure just a touch. I considered cropping but decided the large population IS the picture. Any thoughts?? Is it over done- under done? It doesn't look as good as I thought when viewing in lightroom. ![]() http://www.flickr.com/photos/2355931...2731/sizes/o/- Last edited by lsanford84; 07-20-2009 at 10:26 PM. |

I really like your edit animekitif4christ - you've reminded me not to forget about photoshop- I've been mostly working in lightroom during my 30 free trial so I didn't even think about using layers in photoshop. Great photo- love the crop and use of red.
