my final edit of this photo i promise

3609160369_d9cc1e6ee8edit4

To make this image I did the following:
Removed the sky and power lines, as well as all the stuff on the right hand side of the big building. An area of the image i'm really not happy with as its all a bit flat, but still.
found a nice sunset sky with appropriate lighting for my apocalyptic sort of feel
Placed the new sky into the image and cropped it to fit
Found a good mushroom cloud explosion shrunk that and put it in location
Opened a new document and took the remaining part of the original image (which i shall from here call the "floor") then used various methods to make the colours a bit more appropriate, and then flattened all the layers.
I then took this new version of the "floor" and put it back in with the sky and mushroom cloud.
Deleted the original "floor" from that nearly complete image
I then went along the top of the new "floor" with a rubber of 0% hardness just to remove the sharpness that was left from my previous removing of the original sky.
and there you have it.

And seeing as no one has had a bash at editing the dog, i thought i'd try

dog

I removed the big dogs collar, removed all the sand and other stuff off the 2 smaller dogs, then used levels, hue/saturation, curves, and color balance to improve the colors a bit.

Please as always offer me as much constructive criticism as you want.

The dog king demanded absolute respect, and this pup was no different.

Cloned out extra dog, Opened crown as layer, masked out unwanted portions, scaled crown, messed with levels.

Default First try at this

I saw the ears of one dog and wanted to play with them. I tried changing the backgrounds with limited success. All done in Gimp. I only used elements of both pictures without adding anything new, cleaning up the sky shot and stuff.
