Default What Would You Do (#16)

Another week of what would you do, and the call is still out for more pictures If you want your picture to be used in one of these threads, just drop me a PM with a link to the medium and large version of your picture and it will get used in the order that it is received.

This week, we have a picture from our most talkative member, jiminyClickit. Jim has helped so many of us see how an edit can fix up a picture, now it's your turn to show him what you've learned and edit one of his pictures.

Available larger

The "rules" of the game are simple. Take the picture, go do whatever edits you want to do with it, and then come back and show us what you've done and tell us how you did it. Couldn't be simpler.

So, let's see what you would do... who's first?

This is probably a good example why you should never post process anything after a few glasses of red wine but c'est la vie.

I was attracted to the symmetry in the clouds at the lower half of the photo and wanted to emphasise that:

- I square cropped the photo
- duplicated the photo and rotated it 180 degrees and used an Overlay layer blend
- duplicated the original photo, moved to the top layer, inverted it, Guassian blur of about 7, overlay layer blend
That was it - kind of abstract. Cool photo - I hope I didn't butcher it too much!

Default Mushroom Cloud

I did a bit of work to create a stronger link between the upper and lower cloud areas, intensified the colours and cropped to emphasise the "mushroom cloud" effect.

The result is rather apocalyptic although, if you look closely, you will see I was a bit sloppy in making the foreground water drops and rivulets run smoothly over the adjusted background.

wulf,

The storm was sudden and violent, too, and freaky with the Sun shining.

Default Waiting for the storm

Picked one of my photographs
Copied it to a new layer, duplicated it, used Gaussian blur to blur the edges
In one painted black
In the shadow, increased the red and reduced the opacity.
Made another vertical window frame on the left in the background
Sharpened the background

This reminded me of a dreary Sunday afternoon, sitting and watching the rain fall out the window

First of all, I think this shot is really cool already, so my edit isn't an improvement, but rather a slightly different take.

What you would do #16

GOAL: No clear goal this time, except b&w conversion, more emphasis on droplets, and clearer background subject

What I did (in Paint Shop Pro 8):
-Cropped (went for the long narrow crop to accentuate droplets falling down the window)
-Desaturated
-Unsharp mask (radius 75, strength 30)
-Histogram adjustment (-15)
-Added a little green
-Rotated shot .6 degrees to get the droplets more vertical
-Rotated entire shot 180 degrees so "trees" would be upright and seem more like the background subject (perhaps in real life these are branches??)
-Added black borders for mood

The image is beautiful as is.

- Boosted the saturatio
- Curves for contrast
- Blending mode 'softlight' and masking some areas from softlight
-Crop
-Place the frame
