Default Anyone up for a DPS 365 day project ?

EDIT : Group flickr page here 365 DPS Assignment

I have realised that I am not actually challenging myself with my photography. Even though I have the passion, I find that I take pictures only during the odd weekend outing and these turn out to be "snap shot" style as I don't take the time to think about composition and creativity because I don't want to bore the people I go out with

So, I thought a 365 day challenge will help me to improve. Only issue is that I need support - I know I am not going to be able to keep doing it everyday if I don't have a group of people to kick my backside

Rather than have a typical self portrait or single themed 365 day project, I thought a general one (any subject) would help involve more people. But to bring in a bit of creativity/challenge, each week to be based on the DPS Weekly Assignment topic. This would mean that you have atleast 7 potential entries (winners) for the weekly challenge

I plan on starting from tomorrow (1st April - no its not a April Fool's Day joke! jeez ... ). But anyone can join at any time as long as they stick to a pic a day from the start. If enough people are interested (more than 2 ) I will start a group on flickr to post our pics.

Alright then - who is with me ?

PS. Mods - I think this post might be relevant in the Assignments board but I noticed its only Assignments that are posted there - if you think it is ok, please refer this post there as well

PSS. I am planning on doing a 52 week self portrait project as well (yes I think I am taking on too much ). Any one interested ?

I guess I can give it a shot. I'll be hitting a rough patch in the later part of April because my boyfriend is coming down for the week, but I should be good the rest of the 365 days

It is better in "Games and Challenges" (where you have placed it). Assignments has a tight focus and plenty of activity and adding this challenge in would probably confuse people.

Also, how about running your weeks a little bit early? Our assignments go from Wednesday to Wednesday but you can begin taking pictures as soon as the theme is announced (for example, if you took a "Wisdom" shot yesterday it is eligible for the new assignment that will get posted up tomorrow). You could start your theme week on the Saturday after the theme has been announced. This would give you four or five candidates ready for when the assignment goes live and a couple more days if you still weren't satisfied.

All right, I read your post this morning and have been mulling over it all day. I am a newbie and I think I want to try this so I make the jump from auto to manual mode and force myself to learn more about photography and my camera. Plus, I wanted to do something unique to celebrate my half-century birthday this year and this, while difficult, seems more fun than training for a marathon. I have been taking pictures forever and have a website where I post my sports photos so I could post there as I have no clue about Flickr and haven't figured out how to post here.

I am nervous about this part though:

Rather than have a typical self portrait or single themed 365 day project, I thought a general one (any subject) would help involve more people. But to bring in a bit of creativity/challenge, each week to be based on the DPS Weekly Assignment topic. This would mean that you have atleast 7 potential entries (winners) for the weekly challenge

I have never attempted any of the assignments and am not sure I even understand some of them... Hope there will be some help...

I am not quite sure what your proposition is, just a photo each day within the theme of the current assignment? In any case, I would give it a try.

I'm 90 days into a 365 at the moment that I started on Jan.1, but I'd be willing to join in.

You really can learn a lot from doing them.

Count Me In ... since I'm here most of my time anyway

Question #1 ... what if i miss a day or two because I have a trip to go and I don't have any computer or internet access how do i make it up or do i get disqualify for the rest of the year?

Question #2 ... Does the picture have to be current or can I enter an old photo since EXIF is not intact

I'm interested. I need something to push me -- haven't been challenging myself enough the last 2-3 months and I notice my photography skills have begun a downward spiral.

So when do we officially start and with which assignment?

For a 365 type project, I think you should be sharing a fresh, new, never before seen and hot off the camera image. The challenge - and the learning - comes from constant practise that it entails.

As for what to do when away on a trip? Up to you. I doubt anyone will have the time to watch too closely. You could either miss those days out, take pictures and publish them later, catch up with extra shots or stop the clock when you are away so that you sign off when you have reached 365 shots.
