Kudos you guys! I had recently challenged my self with a 365 Project, not Self-Portraits, but PictureADay kind of a thing. And I loved it. I used my lunch hour for it. That was the best time I had to myself in the day. Cos after going home I have to tend to my 2 little girls.

I learnt a lot in about 30 days of shooting everday stuff around me, from electric poles to pot holes to fire hydrants to fallen leaves in the gutter. It was great leanring experience. About 40 days into it I started feeling odd about it, being spotted by some people in the company, seen on the streets in my business attire and my camera and sometimes in very awkward postures like my nose stuck into the bushes and butt in the air trying to get a picture of the earthworm on the leaf. There was nothing else I could but give on my 365 and feel sorry for myself for being so self-conscious.

So good luck to you all. RiyaziM good on your part to take up this not so simple challenge and to bring in others too. You may want to consider creating a DPS-365 group on Flickr, it would be easier to manage and serve as a encoraging platform for all the others engaged in the same project.

Good Luck.

As for what to do when away on a trip? Up to you. I doubt anyone will have the time to watch too closely. You could either miss those days out, take pictures and publish them later, catch up with extra shots or stop the clock when you are away so that you sign off when you have reached 365 shots.

Thanks Wulf

Plus, I wanted to do something unique to celebrate my half-century birthday this year and this, while difficult, seems more fun than training for a marathon. I have been taking pictures forever and have a website where I post my sports photos so I could post there as I have no clue about Flickr and haven't figured out how to post here.
McDeegan - 365 projects are great way to learn and challenge yourself. With regard to Flickr - its a great place to share and comment on pictures. You can get a free account just by signing in. You can learn more here

Taking part in assignments is another good way to challenge yourself. Its quite simple - every week, a theme is announced (this week it is Shallow Depth of Field - here). Just take a picture which fits the theme and post in that thread. Winners are chosen by the mods and posted in the weekly round up email. There is more info and the rest of the assignments here. Just go through some of them and you will get the general idea

P.S., to my previous post:

For the past couple weeks I have been mulling the idea of a DIY light box and set up some fashion of a lighting studio in our spare room. Participating in a 365 day project would really motivate me to do it...

You really can learn a lot from doing them.
Would be great to have you !

Question #1 ... what if i miss a day or two because I have a trip to go and I don't have any computer or internet access how do i make it up or do i get disqualify for the rest of the year?
Wulf answered your questions pretty well but I will put my 2cents as well

No disqualifications whatsoever - the idea is to challenge yourself taking a pic every day and posting it. If for some reason you can't do it, try to catch up. Or continue - doesn't matter. The important part here is the effort.

Nobody is going to check but the whole point of the exercise is to challenge oneself by taking a pic every day - so no old photos

First, the disadvantage to using your initials and last name for identification purposes is no one knows what it is and mcdeegan sounds awkward --- so my name is Maggie (actually 5th generation Margaret, which I hate but saddled my oldest daughter with because I was afraid to break the tradition ... ).

Second, do I need my own Flickr account to get onto the one you are going to set up since we have more than 2 people committed?

Finally, my much younger sister is sure you can't teach this old dog new tricks ... hope this proves her wrong ... Law school was not this hard...

Link seems to be incorrect. Did you make sure to make it a Public group? Or maybe there is a lag time on FLickr. Will try again in a bit.

Maggie - its nice to know you ! Yes it is a bit weird sometimes with all the different usernames And yes, crazy as it my sound, my username, Riyazi, is my actual name

Yes - you need to setup your own flickr account. You will then be uploading your pics to your flickr account and then sharing with the group.

And ... you will never be too old to learn ...

newPerspective - sorry I had not "locked" in the alias for the url - done now and working

I joined the flickr group. Do we post our daily efforts to this thread or just to the flickr group?

My suggestion - post the first pic in this post so that we know the people who are planning on doing the 365. The rest of the pics to be posted in the group

Thanks for joining Now I really HAVE to do this
