Default What Would You Do (#87)

We're back with another episode of What Would You Do, the weekly post-processing thread where you, the viewers, get to edit someone else's photo. Let's see who the lucky contestant is today. It's tickintime!

The other half and I were taking a series of pictures using the built in time and started to leave when I noticed the camera was still firing. I jumped in front of it (it was placed on the stairs) and this is the end result. This shot is SOC. The camera was exposed for the cavern, so when the flash fired I became a ghost. I am hoping someone has the photoshop know-how to bring me back to life!
So, for those of you willing to accept the challenge, the rules are simple. Edit the photo in this post. Come back. Show us what you did and tell us how you achieved it. Simple as that!

If you'd like your photo to be featured as a WWYD, simply drop me a PM with a link to the medium and large version of the image.

Now, let's see what you would do!

What immediately jumped to mind, besides how blown out the highlights are, is that there was an awful lot of darkness behind him. It occurred to me that he wouldn't be as noticeably washed out if I adjusted the contrast behind him.

I duplicated the layer, then created a layer mask with the inverse greyscale of the layer. That masks out the brightest areas and lets me adjust only the darkest. Once I did that, I played with the curves to increase the contrast across the darkest part of the histogram and brought up the exposure considerably without changing him. Then I applied selective sharpening.

Of course, as soon as I did that, I unwittingly uncovered the reason he was making that face:

When will men learn not to play god?

BTW if you want to just see the exposure adjustments: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3573/...24a11977_o.jpg

I love these threads

WWYD Number86

How I did it using Photoshop Elements 6
1. I selected the person's body only and adjusted the curves on it.
2. I then inversed my selection so the background was selected. I use Auto Levels 100%
3. This produced some noise, so I used Reduce Noise

Sorry, a little warped this week. Used the warp tool set on expand and a large size and made the eyes, nostrils and chin bigger. (as usualy each step is always done on a sepreate layer) pasted a snake image into the mouth and erased edges to make it lok like it was sitting in the mouth. Used the smudge tool for the eyebrows. Burned the face to make it look a little darker
Pasted wings and used the background easure tool to clean up edges and lowered the opacity slightly. Used the Lucis Art plug in to make it look unreal. added a texture layer witht he blend mode set on overlay. erased some areas with a lower opacity brush. added yet another texture layer and used the curves adjustment layer function to give it a bit of color. Erased areas I didnt want to show

I found a tutorial that I liked the results of, the only thing I am not fond of is the lack of texture in the corrected skin areas.

Default "Spelunker's Productions" presents . . .

This said "feline" from the first look, so I raided Yahoo! images for a poster and a makeup example.

Small crop gets subject in a good poster position:

- Clothes are then selected and copied to a new layer, Overlay mode 100%. Hue and contrast adjusted.
- Face/neck are selected and copied to a new layer, Overlay mode 100%. Hue and contrast adjusted.
- Copy/paste wig, position on head
- Copy/paste face makeup, position, erase/blend over original face
- Add logo, then tagline

i decided to go the route of repair......and it was difficult with that blown out too darned bright face and that oh so dark background.....good challenge cuz it made me have to think.....

3266616309_bd9c6f2e0a_b

first things first....i selected the model and put him on a separate layer.....adjusting with a clipped curve layer to bring down that light.....the blown out skin was still blown so i added a bit of color from a different, less blown area and painted it over the blown bits.....beneath that i duplicated my model selection and burned the blown bits till they came down as far as i could get them....now, his face is too ruddy, so i painted a bit of darker cyan over the skin and blended it down.....better, but not great.....

i felt as if that was the best i could do with the skin so i went to the background layer, duplicated it and began to dodge in some of the cave......i got it light enough, but then some grey was creeping in......i painted over the grey bits with an orange that matched the rest of the cave and blended that in......

so there....
