Default What Would You Do (#85)

The weekend means it's time for another round of WWYD, our weekly post-processing thread. This week's picture is from Loving It who wants to know what you would do with this shot:

Available Larger

The rule are simple as always. Use the picture in this shot. Edit it. Then come back and post your results and tell us what you did. It's all about learning ya know .

If you'd like your photo to be the subject of one of these threads, simply drop me a PM with a link to the medium and large versions of the photo. Simple as that!

Now, let's see what you would do!

Always dulplicate image first. Pasted new image as a new layer. I could not get the trees to look right so i just erased them along with other areas on the new layer i didnt want to show. applied sunburst effect and a very slight vingette. Used the drop tool to pick a color out of the sky and painted over the old image with a 6%opacity level. This step should have ben done first to match the warm colors of the sky and should actually have been done by changing the warm balance, but i was lazy and didnt want to undo what I had just done

I used Lightroom to Over expose one copy (more than it was), then I under exposed another copy, and I left one copy as is. I bumped up the black slider a touch to bring out detail.

I than ran all three through photomatrix pro the first is HDR, and the second is Blended.

I think I like the blended better.

hdr

blended

Both processes really brought out the detail in the trees. I was actually hoping for more detail in the sky, but like windrider, I'm lazy.

What Would You Do #85

The clouds are from http://www.flickr.com/photos/e_phots/2642111978

Added the clous in the sky (magic wand to select the old sky...)
Converted to bw (channel mixer, red channel, monochrome, Red +120, Green and Blue at 0, Constant -10)
Added fae film grain.

Ansel Adams's work was my inspiration, but he does a lot better

Here's what I did:

1. Duplicated the layer (always!)
2. Converted to Lab, set Lab layer to Saturation at 50%
3. Adjusted curves on Lab layer to bring out colors
4. Adjust Color Temperature (3180k) working layer
5. Adjust Histogram working layer to further increase saturation and colors
6. Added a gradient layer (black at top to white at bottom), multipled at 50%, below working layers
7. Lens Flare + Sun, below working layers, above gradient layer

kudos, everyone......lots of nice takes on this.....

3161202986_8b8571f5e5_b

i tried to go for one of those generic southwestern images from the eighties.....

i cropped down to the mountain range......added a reflected gradient of teal to transparent....brushed on the sun.....and layered on the sky colors one by one.....i thought it could use a twinkle or two, so i brushed in and reduced the opacity of the stars.....

that first mountain range still had too much detail so i made a selection and applied a palette knife treatment and blended it in....last step was a navy blue vignette around the frame....

thanks

WWYD #85

I have an old program that came with my Canon printer, called Arc Soft Photo Studio5. It has the ability to do layers but I have never figured out how to use them properly. However, wanting to try this out I checked out it's other abilities, and it has some interesting features, which again I do not feel I have mastered. But when I got done fooling around, I had whitened the snow on the mountain, lightened the pic slightly and sharpened the detail. It was fun, thanks for the pic.
