![]() GOAL: Give a sense of 'Waiting for the storm to clear' or 'the sun comes out after a storm.' The subject (boy) already has the perfect mood for this concept (downtrodden), so all that was left for me to do was to make the background look like a storm clearing. What I did (using Paint Shop Pro 8): -Cropped off top of the sky -Duplicated layer -Desaturated 100% of duplicate layer -Erased the boy's shirt to bring back the red color -Erased the right side of the sky to bring out the blue -Increased saturation of the original layer to brighten the red of the shirt and the blue of the sky -Unsharp mask of the duplicate layer (radius 75) for local contrast enhancement (did this twice) -Cloned out the light poles and other miscellaneous poles/sticks -Dodged the forested hill behind boy's head to allow for some separation of color between the boy's head and the trees -Dodged a little of the boy himself to brighten him up a bit -Adjusted color balance a little of the duplicate layer (added cyan to contrast with the red shirt) -Merged layers -Added borders

When I saw this photo it just reminded me of someone who had no friends to do anything with. Except for his invisible friend.
My goal was to try and create that friend. Started by making a copy of the background. Changed some oot cantrast and saturation Make a copy of the boy using the magic lasso Made another copy of the back ground and pasted the copy of the boy in it. Made a layer and faded the copy of the boy out. Made another layer and mast to try and bring out some of the green color in the trees. Made another layer for the frame. Hope it works for you.

Okay I have a problem with this one...
here is what i did. I first duplicated the photo. Made a selection of the sky and cloned out the lights. Then made a gradient overlay. Then stylized it with cutout and adjusted a bit. then made a selection of the lower half with the boy cut out. I did a dry brush technique. Then flattened the layers. My problem is I see a darker shadow around the boy. At first the selection was creating a line around it in white. Im not sure if the feather wasnt set right or what I was doing wrong

Just busy. I think this shot has a lot of potential and I like the versions given already but it is all a question of time.

Allright, shamed into finishing this.
I found I really did not care for the mess of pilings on the boy's right, so I cloned those out. I also thought the pic would be stronger if the hill in the background cut across more of the pic. So on a separate layer I selected it and stretched it across the photo, then masked the boy, pilings etc. where they crossed. Using layer masks, I did separate levels and curves adjustments for the foreground and sky, lightening the foreground, and trying to get a bit more contrast into the sky. I then dodged the boy's skin a bit. Then smart sharpening, masked some in the background. Oh yeah, I added a bit of a vignette. ![]() EL
