Default What Would You Do (#84)

First, a big thanks to Saralonde who was kind enough to put up the last 2 WWYD threads while I was busy traveling between countries and states the last 2 weekends. I think the jetlag is finally gone, so without further ado, here's this weeks WWYD!

This week's picture is from DameAgs who was trying to show the sun as it was just coming over the rooftops.

Available larger

The rules are as simple as always. Use the photo in this post. Edit it. Then come back and show us what you did and walk us through how you did it. Even though we love people showing us what they've manged to do, it's even better when they share their steps because then we can all learn from the thread (it's part of the whole school thing, ya know ).

If you would like your photo featured as a WWYD, please, send me a PM with a link to the medium and small version of the photo. Sometimes it takes a few weeks for it to get used, sometimes it gets used immediately. But if there's a shot of yours you'd like to have edited in the thread, just drop me a PM

Now, let's see what you would do!

I loved the idea of capturing the sun as it rose over the rooftops so my attempt was to bring out the richness in the color. My steps were simple curves adjustments on different layers, hue/saturation adjustments, masking various areas and a little sharpening. The result I hope brings forth the vibrance hidden in this photo.

then, only because it begged to be done, I had to apply the photo-drawing technique followed with the addition of the frame.

Default What Would You Do #84

What Would You Do #84

I cropped the photo because I thought portait orientation would complement the height of the tree.

1. Adjusted curves to lighten house area. Masked the sky to keep the rich color, adjusting opacity.
2. Upped the red saturation and backed off a little on the yellow.
3. Used very slight warming filter and upped the contrast a bit.
4. Sharpened and cropped to portrait.

This was fun

Here's my go at it:

From DPS

Adjusted curves.
Increased Saturation to about 43.
Cropped

I thought it look better as a more darker though sunset photo so I tried to go for that effect.

1. I adjusted the curves on the RGB channel.
2. Created a new raster layer which I filled in with purple (#bc04d0) and set it to burn.
3. Resized the image so the width would be 800px.
3. Sharpen the original image to bring out more detail as it was a bit soft.

WWYD # 84- Oil Painted

In PS CS3:
- Used the curves to enlightened
- Boosted the contrast
- Cropped out the top
- Added some vignetting

In Picasa 3:
- Used the graduated tint filter to retouch the sky

Back to PS CS3:
- Painted with Alien Skin's Snap Art
- Added frame

What Would You Do # 84
That one was hard... (well, not so hard, but the "sun" made me a little nervous...)
Brighten picture with level (except the sky)
Coverted to LAB
Played with curves in LAB mode until it had different colors
LAB sharpening
Crop
Select all and copy
Changes canvas size
Paste
Added sun in new layers (the branches in front of the sun are new layers too)

First I played with levels to brighten it up. Next I ran a series of scripts that I found on the web for Paint Shop Pro. One is called distemper and the other is softstripper
for what would you do

Default My take two

This is my TAKE TWO. I don't know if this is allowed (if not, please, let me know and it will be gone. Thx)

WWYD # 84 Painted & Framed

The same procedure as in TAKE ONE; just scaled the picture and added a different frame. I thought that it looked totally different as the first one.

1. Adjust curves to brighten photo
2. Add texture
3. Adjust hue/saturation to tweak colors
4. Adjust curves and use mask to brighten house a little more

That's about it. Pretty fun challenge. Thanks! :-)
