Default What Would you Do (#74)

Ok, I'm back to my late posting But that doesn't mean there's not a WWYD this week, even if it is a bit late.

This week's challenge comes from LightChaser, who wanted to know what could be done with these two shots. You have a few options here. Work on one of the shots, work on both of the shots, or put both shots into a single shot. But LightChaser thought that it would be a fun challenge to work with 2 photos, so this week, that's what we have!

2653 (by LightChaser: Luis Cruz)

2652 (by LightChaser: Luis Cruz)

The rules are as simple as always. Use the picture(s) in this post, and process them however you would like. Then come back and post your results along with how you got from start to finish. Easy as that!

If you'd like your photo to be featured as a WWYD, just send me a PM with a link to the medium and large version of the photo. Easy as that!

Now, let's see what you would do.

Kinda went with the whole mirror theme. Everything that was done was done on a seperate layer. Bottom layer-desaturate. top layer-roating mirror and then used sphere effect. Used magic wand and chose outside colors from the shpere and then inverted. Deleted so the bottom layer shows thru ad added a drop shadow. Selective saturation for the colors in the butterfly. Used selecetion tool set on rectangle and selected an area inside the image border. Inner bevel tool and then earsed areas that showed over the sphere

Well, I thought the white of this moth (butterfly?) was just asking to be colored so that's what I did (made a new blank layer set to 'multiply' and just painted the colors on).

I also combined the head and body of the second image with the wings from the first image, and applied a 'render lighting' filter to try to get a slightly more dramatic effect.

It was fun to play with these pics.

DPS butterfly merged

I merged the two images in Gimp. The insects don't really register and don't even seem to be the same insect. But I said what the heck and forged ahead. Multiply layer combine. I forgot to see how much opacity. Probably about 35%.

Turn up exposure and brightness a bit. Turn up contrast a lot and vibrancy a bit turn saturation down a bit so colors don't look too freakish. Increase saturation and brightness of blue.

butterfly1 copy 2

ACK, I wish I could remember all that I did. Sorry! I believe I upped the saturation a bit and then I used an "action" called Sheri's Sketch. I liked the results, so here it is.

One flutterby is nice so a host of them has to be nicer?

DPS WWYD #74
I did a little bit of everyones edits for this one. First I layered the two pics and used layer mask to use the crisper head with the other wings. Flattened. Then I duplicated that layer and flipped the top layer horizontally to give me to identical butterflies facing opposite directions. The next part was really the hardest. I had to resize the to fit on the image. In retrospect, I should have just opened a new larger image and taken them to it, but sometimes we just have to do things the hard way. Once I had them sized to my liking, I used layer mask to expose the bottom butterfly. Then I selected the white on the bottom butterfly using color selection and added a color gradient to his wings. Did the same for the top one using a different gradient. Flattened. Made a new solid color layer in black under the butterflies then used layer mask to get rid of the greenery that wasn't necessary.
