Teewinot, Thanks

Just when I need it, you add an encouragement! I thought the catchlight and angle of shadow just missed being aligned, but that's pretty OCD.

You raised the bar with the sharpness and balance of color. These have been some of the better training challenges, fun and encouraging. Glad you play along!

night heron art

My first post. Started with filter effects and moved to multiple layers of line drawings and masking. Texture, photo border and frame added last.
Will pay better attention to order of editing on next post.

This was challenging. I almost gave up, but tried again tonight. I cloned bits here and there, adjusted the bill and replaced whatever he was eating with a beachball.

ETA:
More explanation... I used the selection tool to select bill, then copied to a new layer. Used transform to adjust so that it was open wider, then cloned out original bill location.
Lightened shadows and brightened.
Used selection tool on eyes and yellow cap, then adjusted hue and saturation.
Used circle selection tool to select oval and copied to new layer. Added bevel. Darkened bottom layer and flattened image. Added outline.

Zebster: Haha! What a good idea to put something else in its bill!

Jiminy: Good job on the shadow, I like how it adds depth to the photo!
