Default What Would You Do (#70)

Ok, don't anyone have a heart attack, but it's Tuesday and I'm actually putting up the WWYD on time (there are probably people here who never even knew it was supposed to be a Tuesday thing ).

And this week, I'm using a picture of my own. It's SOOC shot in RAW, so the current state of it leaves a lot to be desired. I've done my processing on the shots that I'm happy with from the shoot, but I figure we haven't had a flower for a WWYD for a while and it never hurts to see what other people would do with a picture. So, without further ado...

20080922-DSC_1949 (by -Nicole-)

Available larger (since the medium size is private on my photostream )

The rules are simple. Use the picture in this post, edit it. Come back and post your results and tell us how you got from start to finish. Easy as that.

Now, let me put out the call for pictures to keep the thread going. I have a few left when people were kind enough to send multiple the last time I called for pictures (just so we wouldn't run out). So, there are a few, but if you were thinking of having a picure used in this thead, now's the time to be brave and let us have a try at it. Just send me a PM with a link to the medium and large version of the shot.

Now, let's see what you would do!

It's actually a very nice image. It's the kind that COULD be fun to apply an artistic effect to, but it's also very satisfying to just bring out the natural beauty.

1) adjust the level: highlights 130

2) adjust color balance: red +13, green +13, yellow -12

I thought the blossom color could pop a little more, so

3) duplicate layer, set blending mode to screen, add layer mask, paint blossom back in, decrease opacity of mask to about 50%

4) apply an unsharp mask

Very simple. Very natural.

I thought I'd give this a try. I'm not very experienced at doing much with post processing so this is good practice for me

Flip, Crop Adjust contrast +67, Adjust Exposure +3

Default Out of bounds

I tried playing around with an "out of bounds" effect. Doesn't look quite right, but here it is anyway:

(you can search the web for various 'out of bounds' tutorials, I didn't keep track of my exact steps )

Default The New Zealand Nicole

After several dalliances with the background, it had to go.

Copy of flipped, cropped original (below) stays untouched as base.

- Second copy has rose selected, background removed.
- Lighten mode, at 20% Opacity brings rose to life.
- Third copy has background selected, rose removed.
- Desaturation, Sponge Effect, Lighten gives mottled background.
- Copy of rose is Desaturated, Darkened, Blurred to create shadow under rose.
- Canvas size is increased, shadow under image is created like rose shadow.

One of the dalliances (original for above):

Default newbie posting

hi all, i just joined dps and this is my first post. please bear with me whilst i learn the ropes on the links etc. here is what i did:

copy background layer
adjust levels
copy blossom onto new layer
set blend mode to color dodge
make several copies of this layer, resize and distribute

hope this works! should i make the image even smaller? i went thru the image size thread, but i have to say for me it was confusing.TIA for any advice!

Default one becomes 3

This was a really great photo to work with so I wanted to do something completely different. Hope you like it...

wwyd70

Steps were too numerous to remember as I just played around but basically the usual
Levels - contrast - sharpen
duplicate layer - cross hatch (twice) on lower layer
masked flower - merged
widenend canvas - copied and flipped to create mirror image
pasted again and rotated to place third flower
masked out background from middle flower
framed and resized to 640px for DPS
