Default What Would You Do (#56)

Gosh, the numbers just keep piling up, don't they? Well, we're up to week 56 of WWYD! This week's picture is from dlaf.

Available Larger

The rules are the same as every week: Use the photo in this post, edit it, then come back and show us what you did and tell us how you did it.

If you want your picture to be featured as a WWYD, then all you need to do is drop me a PM with a link to the medium and large version of the photo. Now, let's see what you would do!

Sometimes I just can't help but work on a photo right away. But the puppy was so cute!

So, here's what I did:
1. The colour looked a bit dull, so I used the velvia technique to boost the colours (Channel Adjustment layer with each of the respective channels increased by 40 and then decreasing the other 2 colours in the channel by 20 each... e.g. Red 140, Blue 80, green 80).
2. Then I decided that the picture started looking really summery, so I figured the brown on the ground just wouldn't do. So, new adjustment layer filled with a grassy kind of green, and then masked out around the dog and the leaves.
3. Then I added a B&W adjustment layer set to soft light and the maximum black setting for the mix.
4. Last of all, I cropped it down to get rid of some of the excess green.
I think that's everything!

Thanks, Nicole! My 7 year old is going to love this!

Suri, yours brought lots of giggles!

Debbie (dlaf)

p.s. The dog's name is Rose, name after my then 6 yo's Kindergarten teacher!

what would you do

First thing I did was to use the selection tool set on edge finder and traced around the eyes. I then used the change to selection tool to paint the eyes blue. duplicated image - desaturated - erased eye area. selective burn set on midtones - cropped

Here is my try at it. I was trying to make the dog stand out more.

WWUD#56

Here is what I did,
Duplicate the layer on the LAYER pallette
Go to FILTER - OTHER - HIGH PASS type 4.0 for RADIUS
on the LAYERS pallette choose vivid light for the blending mode
Flatten the image.

Second Step
Duplicate the layer on the LAYER pallette
Go to FILTER - OTHER - HIGH PASS type 6.9 for RADIUS
on the LAYERS pallette choose color for the blending mode
Set opacity to 40%
Flatten the image.

Third Step
DUPLICATE LAYER on layer pallette
FILTER - BLUR - GAUSSIAN BLUR 9.4 pixels
FILTER - NOISE - ADD NOISE 3%
from the top menu select LAYER - ADD LAYER MASK - HIDE ALL
using the lasso tool select only the eyes and choose SELECT - FEATHER about 6pixels
Choose SELECT - INVERSE
now use the brush on the tool pallette and set the brush opacity to 30% - brush over the entire image
FLATTEN the image

the final step is to sharpen the image.

Go to FILTER - SHARPEN - UNSHARP MASK

I use the following settings:
AMOUNT 100%
RADIUS 30.0 pixels
THRESHOLD 0

I only have access to Picnic right now so I adjusted the exposure -28,
contrast -5, saturation 6, sharpness 8 and used the Orton effect a little bit. I also cropped the dog so he would occupy the whole frame...he's so cute.

Recropped to focus on his head, Auto WB then a gentle s-curve.
Sharpened (twice) then a Gaussian Blur on the grass and lower parts of the doggy

Then scale so it fits on here . Oops!

Ok, so I used the smaller version...

Photobucket

I copied the original,
Played with the colours on the copy until I got nice bright green grass.
Then i fiddled with the colours on the copy to change the colour of the dog
erased the dog on the top layer
straightend the pic
blurred the background so only doggie's face was sharp.
Sharpened the face
Darkened the nose
Cropped and I think that's it
