Here's My Simple Attempt...

MY WWYD

I duplicated the image / raised the color levels-the red and blue-tried to give him a bit more color, especially in the face / used the unsharpen mask a couple of times / I used the oval select tool to cut him out, meanwhile...

Layer2: I cloned the lawn to fill it in (covered the dog too/ sharpened it / used the unsharpen mask strongly / then I applied a Gaussian blur to the lawn.

Step 3: I pasted the dog (from the first layer) onto the lawn / used the eraser tool to get the blured lawn back /

finally: I applied a canvas effect / then I oilified it lightly / then reapplied the canvas brush lightly / cropped it, and there's your pooch

A little late, but I thought I'd give this one a go. I decided to do a monochrome version.

What you would do #56

What I did (in PSP Photo XI):
-Cropped
-Curves adjustment
-Highlights, midtones, and shadows adjustment
-Unsharp mask (radius 75, strength 20)
-Time machine tool: Albumen conversion
-Desaturated 75%
-Histogram midtones adjustment (-20)
-Straightened
-Added picture frame
