Default What would you do (#51)

Poor Nicole is beyond busy this week so I was bugging her about our challenge. So she mentioned if I had one to go ahead and handle it this week. So here goes:
This week's challenge is one of my own
Jason 1297

The standard rules apply, edit the photo, come back, and show and tell us what you did.

If you want your picture to be the subject of one of these WWYD threads, just drop me a PM and I use the pictures in the order I get them. If you have sent me a PM with a link and it's been a while and I haven't used your photo, it's probably not intentional and I somehow misplaced it off my list. So if that happens just drop me a note.

Now, let's see what you can do with this puppy!

I hope this will link to larger version: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2154/...c75701ba_b.jpg

A quick bit of colour correction, since the the strong green / yellow cast stood out to me:

Rather than my normal method (using the Levels tool) I took a duplicate layer, applied a heavy blur and then sampled an average colour. I created a new layer in that colour, inverted it (resulting in blue), set the mode to overlay and then pulled down the opacity. I wouldn't call the result highly realistic but it does give an interesting tonal treatment.

I also applied some high pass filtering (as discussed here).

Default They never let poor Rudolph...

They never let poor Rudolph...

to view large: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3084/...dfa7558c_o.jpg

Here's what I did in Paint Shop Pro XI:
  • Used Smart Edge selection tool to select out deer, then copied him onto a new layer
  • used Remove Object to eliminate the deer in original and replace with grass
  • Turned all the green to yellow, then colorized everything to green
  • Reduced size of deer then pasted 9 times, mirroring and placing around in the field. Separated "Rudolph"
  • Drew red circle on Rudy's nose
  • Used paint tubes to scatter cards, beverages, and empty champagne bottles to give it that "game night" feel
  • Snorted while laughing at my hilarity

Here is my version

- Select our subject with lasso
- Copy to another layer
- Create a new channel with a horizontal gradient from black to white
- Select the first layer and apply lens blur with the alpha mask
- crop and adjust the color.

probably he wants to be in other place like the WWYD#50...
