Default Classic Rock Challenge XVIII

The Blues Had a Baby & They Called It Rock & Roll

If you were to ask any of the early R&R legends who their influences were. One name always comes to the forefront. Robert Johnson

This week, in Classic Rock Challenge, I thought I would do something a little different. I'm going to feature an album that is made up of all the songs recorded by Robert Johnson. "The Complete Recordings" is 41 songs but 12 of them are alternate versions. Robert Johnson only recorded 29 original songs & there has always been a legend of the missing 30th song. There was no 30th song. He did however record 29 songs that have been rerecorded by just about anybody who is anybody. Eric Clapton was one of Johnson's biggest fans & even recorded a pair of albums. "Me & Mr. Johnson" & "Sessions for Robert J.. The later being a CD & DVD set. I highly recommend either for any blues fans out there.

Legend has it that Robert Johnson sold his soul for fame & fortune. They say he went down to "The Crossroads" & made a deal with the Devil. Johnson never really collected on that bargain. He didn't live long enough!

Robert was born May 8, 1911 & died August 16, 1938 at the age of 27. Legend has it that Robert was somewhat of a ladies man. One night while playing in a juke joint Robert was poisoned by the owner of the place(via a bottle of whiskey) because he had been seeing the owners wife on the side & the owner caught wind of it.

Week 18
Track List:
* "32-20 Blues"
* "Come on in My Kitchen"
* "Cross Road Blues"
* "Dead Shrimp Blues"
* "Drunken Hearted Man"
* "From Four Till Late"
* "Hellhound on My Trail"
* "Honeymoon Blues"
* "I'm a Steady Rollin' Man"
* "I Believe I'll Dust My Broom"
* "If I Had Possession over Judgment Day"
* "Kind Hearted Woman Blues"
* "Last Fair Deal Gone Down"
* "Little Queen of Spades"
* "Love in Vain"
* "Malted Milk"
* "Me and the Devil Blues"
* "Milk Cow's Calf Blues"
* "Phonograph Blues"
* "Preachin' Blues
* "Rambling on My Mind"
* "Stones in My Passway"
* "Stop Breakin' Down Blues"
* "Sweet Home Chicago"
* "Terraplane Blues"
* "They're Red Hot"
* "Traveling Riverside Blues"
* "Walkin' Blues"
* "When You Got a Good Friend"

The rules are simple. Just take either the title of the album, or the title of any song & interpret it with a photo. Have fun!!

So, I have to ask. Was the character of Tommy Johnson in "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" based on Robert Johnson?
