totally confused - assignments/weekly and weekend challenges

OK, I think I have the weekly assignment business down - it's posted some time on Wednesday on the forum and there ya go.

I'm completely confused about weekend and weekly challenges - the newsletter that comes sporadically (and yes, I check my spam and trash boxes regularly) tell me about these sometimes but they sometimes seem like they're last week/weekend and sometimes this/next and don't seem to have dates.

I'm just lost and sure I'm missing something completely basic! Can someone help me??

The Weekly Assignments are in the first forum under Digital Photography School - Photography Forums , and, you are right. The new assignment starts on Wednesday. They are more of a competition where the submissions are judged and first/second/third places are announced (in the newsletter).

The Games and Challenges Forum, however, is not so much a competition as it is a place where you can show off your photos while participating in the various, well, Games and Challenges. On the first page of each game/challenge thread are the instructions/rules. You can either scroll through the various pages of the challenge to see some mighty fine photography (in my opinion), or jump to the last page to add your photo there following the rules of that particular game.

Don't be bashful! Feel free to participate in either or both. We look forward to seeing your work.

Is the "games and challenges" the same as the ones that are called "weekly" and "weekend" that are put in the newsletters?

I do sometimes post photographs in those but often try to just keep them in mind as assignments to keep me focused (excuse me). It's nice to know what's happening when tho.

Yes, the weekend/weekly (used to be called weekend challenge but now seems to be changed to weekly challenge) and it is just for the blog page (or whatever they are calling it) and I have the same problem as you. Which one is current? When I get the email for weekend tips, the weekend challenge seems to be a week old because on the blog page the challenge is different. In any case, I quickly discounted this challenge because people were not taking it as a challenge. They were quick to post old photos more as show and tell than to take on the challenge and only post their current result. There are already too many "show and tell" shots inserted into all the current challenge and current assignments. I suppose that is because not that many people go to the Share Your Shot section.

Also, this post has been posted in the games and challenges section but should probably have been posted to the general chit chat. Reading it, I don't get that it is questioning the games and challenges section.
