Default What Would You do #145

Good morning!
Here's a wonderful photo from Naeno.
Rules of the challenge are quite simple. Take this photo and edit it anyway that you see fit. The only thing is, you need to tell us the steps you took to achieve your look. It's a great way to learn post processing or to learn new techniques. Have fun!!

lastnose

Reduced the brightness and increased the contrast
flipped vertically
duplicated the shell, flipped horizontally and moved into mirror image spot
from cat picture copied and pasted each eye and cleaned up with the eraser
patched in the nose, darkened and increase contrast and Gaussian blur, and that's about it (I think!)

what would you do 145
selected the shell with the shadow and put it in another layer. with layermask, blended the shadows with the layer below. desaturated the shell, flattenned. entered quickmask and with small sharp brush brushed the a crooked line across as the finish line. exited quickmask to produce selection and pressed ctrl J to put the line selection in another layer. went to layer, layer style, bevel and emboss to create the impression of a deep line. made the balloon and typed the text. flattened.

What Would You Do #145

I didn't change too much for this photo.

In Paint Shop Pro:
  • Duplicated the original image layer and converted to Black & White with a blue filter.
  • Reduced opacity to blend with the original.
  • Added a photo of shallow water on a new layer and duplicated.
  • Set one water layer to Normal and the other to Overlay, then adjusted opacities.
  • Merged the layers, adjusted contrast, and sharpened.

After trying to get the Droste effect (mathmap) to work in GIMP for over an hour or more, I decided to give up and get it as close as I could without the stupid plug-in.

cropped, selected the shell, copied, pasted into a new layer, flipped horizontally, scaled, did that same thing three more times, cropped some more, adjusted levels, breathed a sigh of relief!
