Default What Would You Do (#37)

Ok, fingers crossed the post goes through... it's What Would You Do (#37). So, if you're still having problems getting on to the forums, why not have a go at this week's What Would You Do? And then when everything is working smoothly again, post your results along with what you did so that we can all learn from them.

This week's picture is from The Weird Witch:

Site seems to be working fine this morning! So here's my take:
First I erased the background and then converted to black and white. I then painted red eyes on the statues.
Copied and pasted as a new layer onto the fantasy pic. Made the fantasy pic highlighted and copied that and then pasted it as a transparent selection. I then made the transparent selection on top of the layers palette.
Selected the staue layer and moved it to a spot where I thought it would look the best. I then went back and selected the tranparent layer and erased parts selectivley over the statue. Merged all layers

what would you do 37

well almost fine. it took about 4 trys to get this to post after getting error messages

Windrider86, that's a beautiful image. I really like the "Fantasy" feel that you've accomplished. Great job! I have GIMP, but not enough experience with layers, to try this yet. Someday, with the help of this forum (and alot of practice), I'll be able to create something as cool as this. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much! To be honest with you I am not so hot at layers and especially with masks. I was actually pleasantly surprised with the outcome of this one.
I do have to telly ou tho that everything I have learned so far has been on this forum!

Selected, copied and pasted the staues on a new layer. Duplicated it, used a curve to pump the colour then a layer mask with radial gradient to highlight one of the faces.

Back to the original layer, duplicated and use colour>threshold then select-by-colour to select the darker part. hid this layer than duplicated the original again and ran a 12px radial blur.

Played with opacity on the various layers.

And flipped horizontally to make it read left to right.

Selected subject blurred background and converted statue to B&W and adjusted shadows and highlights then cropped and cloned a bit of the roof top that was left out. Then framed it.

wwyd#37a

Converted the photo to b&w.
In Photoshop Elements.4.0
1. Made a Copy
2. Clicked on Black & White dot and selected Levels
3. Moved levels layer between the original and the copy
4. Clicked on the copy to make it active. then under Layers, Selected "Group with Previous"
4. Clicked on the copy to make it active and added a Gaussian Blur filter.
5. Clicked on the levels layer and selected the paint brush, made sure that the black was selected in the pallet and started to sharpen the images.
6. Enhanced the Brightness/Saturation
7. Enhanced the Shadows/Highlightss
