Here's my take:

Cropped, adjusted levels, increased contrast and brightness, reduced the exposure.

Converted to black & white using custom colour selections and then layer masked the yellow beak back in.

My steps:

Levels
Converted to B&W
Unsharpmask
did levels a few more times with different layer masks to help bring out the robin.
Blurred and darkened the top portion to help the robin stand out more.

My take on it.

Cropped
Adjusted levels and saturation a bit. Duplicated original layer, desaturated, inverted and changed layer blending to overlay.
Desaturated the rocks so the robin would stand out.

Great shot as it is, Wulf!

- Crop to give prominence.
- Select bird, pay attention to edge feathering (my program calls it Smudge).
- Copy bird, desaturate, blur, lighten. Skew this layer, distort it down and left to make shadow. Position at foot.
- Add a very light vignette.
- Use Contrast, Sharpen, and Saturation sparingly to enhance feathers.

Here's my shot at it.

What Would You Do (#35)

A pretty simple edit. First, a levels adjustment to bring out some feather detail. For color adjustment there are two main layers- a multiply layer that I masked for the stones, and a soft light that's only applied to the robin. Added a vignette that I modified a bit on the left side to make darker. Also added a spot light behind the robin by duplicating the layer, dodging (low exposure, 0% hardness), and then erasing any parts of the robin that got dodged on that layer. Finally added a warm color filter because the colors looked all funky when I saved for web.

Too dark for some reason - looked brighter in Photoshop...
