Default Fujifilm Finepix S1500

Hi,

Having had a Casio point and shoot for a few years, I have just bought the S1500 to try and get into a little more serious photography - does anyone have any experience/opinions on this camera? All answers good or bad most welcome as I have 28 days to get a refund if the balance of opinion is against it

Thanks In Advance To All,
Dave Barlow

I just bought a Fujifilm S1500 too. I did a lot of reading and found that most people liked it a lot, especially for the price. Some people mentioned that it had a lot of sutter lag. I have not noticed much lag with mine. Maybe Fujifilm improved the lag on the newer units or maybe it is only certain cameras that inherit the problem, I do not know. Also, it does not save pictures in RAW and there are no filters available to fit the lens. I did, however, found that Cokin makes a point and shoot/bridge camera filter holder for their "A" filters. It uses the tripod mount screw location to hold what they call a shoe onto the camera. It is able to be positioned in a variety of ways so you can line up the filter to the lens.

Thanks for that George - the filter info is really usefull and I will follow that up. I have been pretty impressed with the S1500 so far, and as you say for less money than many compact digitals cost it seems great value for money.

Here is a link to the Cokin adapter. I was able to find one at a local camera store. Have not purchased one yet because it is on my Christmas list.

Little late jumping in the thread but here's my input...

I've had an S1500 for about a year now. It has been my go-to camera when I don't want to lug around my SLR or when we're on a motorcycle ride since it's cheap and I don't have to worry about damaging it.

The only problem is that the auto-focus doesn't handle low light too well. This is to be expected though so it's not really a problem. More of a limitation that I miss when I don't have a manual focus option.

It is extremely durable. In the past year that I have had mine it got tossed in to the tank bag on the motorcycle and has at least 15,000 miles under it this year.

The ISO range is good for the price but it is noisy when you get to the higher end.

Battery life is excellent. I always had spares with me but I don't remember ever having them run out on me except when I forgot to put a fresh charge on them.

The macro setting is excellent for a P&S. I believe minimum focus range is something like .75 inch.

The opposite end, the zoom range is excellent also. I don't remember what the exact 35mm equivalent is but it has great reach.

But it is still a small sensor P&S and depends on it's auto-focus system. If you remember that and accept the camera for what it is, it is an amazing little unit for the price.
