The Fuji is a nice camera but it's not a DSLR.
Actually it's very similar to the Kodak that you are using now.

i didnt realise it was a fixed lens. the tech spec for this camera was the same as most dslr's,
oh well, for a newbie like me this should be a really good starting camera.

cdgaskin, Welcome

Quite a lot of photographers on Flickr seem able to shoot fine images with their Fuji. Have a look at what others are doing:

I contribute to that group a lot. I've found I was able to grow so much with this camera, it rocks! Manual zoom doesn't waste battery power, batteries can last for 3 days (4 AA rechargeable), records RAW files, usable ISO 100 and 200 without having to denoise, nice comfortable grip. It's still a very unique camera.

Post Fugi 6500fd

I have been using the fuji fine 6500fd camera ever since it was on the market and I find that to be one of the best fuji cameras that fuji has come out with for all around photography in a long time. It is the same as any other good camera someone out there has a different thought about different cameras, which is good that is what makes the world go round. I really suggest take what ever camera you have and learn everything about the camera and you can take good pictures. The main thing I have found is to get a handle on lighting and you can take any digital camera and take good pictures.
