Question Help with Fujifilm S1000

I just bought this camera yeaterday and I find when I go tp take a picture there is a long pause between when I hit the button to when the picture is actually taken. Is there a setting that I a missing to make this less of a pause? I have 1 year old twins that I try to get to sit by one another and I can not get a picture before they move with this camera because of this long pause. Any information would be appreciated!!

Taylorbees, Welcome

You've found the weak spot of the lesser models of Fuji: I have the S3100 and the same issue. When you shop for your next camera (and I'll bet you will in a few months), looking for the listed shutter lag time, and flash recycle time, will give you a better understanding of what one-year-olds require.

If you haven't tried sports mode yet, that can help reduce motion blur, but getting "the pose" will be a matter of practice, anticipating what the twins are likely to do, and luck.

I love the results I get with stationary well-lit natural subjects, but motion and darkness are a real challenge. Maybe wait until just after the twins dine, then set up outdoors?

Just purchased the s1000fd,upgraded from s700. The lag time is annoying!!
After some research (I should have done more) I found out the s1000fd has a 0.43 lag,the s700 has a 0.22.
So you might want to consider the s700.I found it very useful for quick shots,(Drag racing photographer) ,But I'm afraid the s1000fd lag time will hurt my split second shots I need !

I used to have a S6000fd & the shutter Lag was one of the things I hated the most.

I have had my S1000fd for a couple of weeks and found an answer to shutter lag:

Set the camera in sports mode and while waiting for "the moment", hold the shutter button down halfway (to pre-focus) until you fully depress it. There is very little lag time in that mode. The one trick is, let the finger off and hold it down again every so often so the camera can re-focus again.

I love my S1000fd, shutter lag and all! as a matter of fact, I took this "timing" photo in this way:

Page 67 of your manual shows the self timer function. The camera can be set for a 2 second delay and a 10 second delay. It is the down arrow on the "MENU/OK" button on the back of your camera. You might be set on a 2 second delay.

Twins and all small kids move really fast - I had the same problem with my Canon camera - which is why I upgraded my camera. The sports mode helps some, but you do have to press the shutter half way and wait, but when you cannot anticipate the next move, you get a lot of unusable pictures.

Also, are you shooting in Auto, does your camera have a manual mode? My lower end canons did...since you just bought it you might want to return it and get a camera that has a manual mode, if your does not.

With manual, you can shoot w/o the flash and your wait time is not as long...

hello Taylorbee:

The problem is indeed shutter lag. This is common for lower end cameras.. there are a number of
things the camera must do to take the picture.

here is how to reduce the problem.

hold the button down halfway just prior to taking the picture. at the right moment press the rest of
the way. you will have better luck.

my guess is you are punching the button instead of pressing the botton. (many people do this
and it may also cause camera movement.)
