I own the tokina 12-24 f4 for nikon.

I love it. I used it 90% of the time for my yosemite trip. Check here to see what it can do: http://flickr.com/photos/stephenkirsh/

It's quite enjoyable!

Hmmm. Not to my knowledge, but then again many of those "PC" terms never really stuck. The place I take workshops from still offers titles such as "Artistic Nude" and "Abstract Nude." They had not changed the names last time I looked at their offerings .

Websters has among its definitions of "nude" - devoid of a natural or conventional covering; especially : not covered by clothing or a drape. I am not sure what isn't "PC" about that .

That seems to be a pretty fair description. I mean it isn't like we take on Bear, Wolf, Dog, Cow, Chicken or even Un-Human Form when we have clothes on right? We are "Human Form" regardless of how much or how little we are dressed. Some of those terms get a little silly imho

I would agree.

Well, with the exception of 77mm, as of earlier this evening I'm well covered on CPL's. Problem with the 77mm is all I can find is the new CPL II type, but I prefer the older style Nikon CPL's. I can see how the newer thin 77mm would be better for wide angle glass though

Still got my sights on the 12-24 Tokina, but I'm thinking I may shoot for the 24-85mm D first. Quite possibly this week!

Yes, absolutely. The thin CPS filters work brilliantly to reduce/prevent vignetting on the wide angle lenses, which as you know can be a problem. I don't have the Nikon 77mm, but people seem to rave about it. No vignetting and no color cast. I have the 77mm Hoya SMC thin filters. That also works very well!

Expensive chunks of glass, those 77mm's.

Depending on the range you're after, you might want to consider the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 instead of the 12-24. The very narrow zoom range makes it more equivalent to an ultrawide prime than a zoom, but it's lots of fun, faster, and by most comparisons significantly sharper at f/4 than the 12-24 (as you would expect given that it's stopped down a little).

I have a set on my flickr stream taken with that lens, and I've really enjoyed it so far. At f/2.8 it's still quite sharp in the center of the frame, making it very useable in low(er) light.

Thanks for pointing me to your set Russ, and the suggestion.

I have thought about wider lens and the 11~16 is a contender when the time comes... later. For now I'm working on the 12~24 and 24~70/85 range in better lens' than what I now have, but at the same time practical. I can't see myself paying $1000 + for glass unless I get to a point where I'm getting paid to do photography. Same goes for bodies... the most expensive I could see myself with being a D700 and that would be a reach. The S5 I got last month is the most expensive camera I have ever bought. I need to "work it"!

That will take me long enough to put together. After that, super/ultra wide's, fisheye's, micro's and tele-zooms will all be considered as I see a need for them, and as they relate to my interests.

Too add... I recently found a site you all may or may not know about, www.slrgear.com .

I've been reading alot of the reviews on lens' there, and gaining a knowledge of particular lens' "sweet spots". Good stuff to know... I'm taking notes!!
