  • Ten Minutes From Home (16 July-30 July)

This week's assignment is Ten Minutes From Home". Walk, bike, drive or fly exactly 10 minutes from where you live and shoot what's there. No 9 minute or 11 minute trips.
Here's my contribution. Thought 10 minutes would take me right by a bucolic farm with cows and a landscape even a non-landscape photographer like me could handle. Unfortunately, unforseen roadwork ate up my time and I ended up parked by the side of the road with nothing but weeds and gravel, cars flying by, bright sun, no shade and a stiff breeze. Trying to make the best of it, I took out my trusty 50mm and shot a flowering weed. Blurriness caused by the wind made me do a little work in Photoshop. A good lesson in dealing with unexpected conditions!

A review of the contest rules might be helpful:

    1. The image you submit should be taken between the July 16 (when it was announced) and July 30 (up until one of the moderators closes the the mini-contest).

    2. EXIF data needs to be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message.

    3. Your post must include "Assignment: 10 Minutes From Home" to show your permission to count it for the contest.

    4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above).

For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text).

Next week's assignment: "X-tych" (diptych, triptych or anything up to 7 pictures formed into a single image with multiple panels). For help, try these sites suggested by Nicole:

What a great idea for inspiration. You're like stuck in that 10 min place; shoot or go home and sleep. Right now I'm figuring out which direction to travel so that I don't end up on the bottom of a river.

          Assignment: 10 Minutes From Home

Ten minutes from my house and you get a view over my whole town. I cropped it in a bit to get rid of all the houses underneath it.

                Assignment: 10 Minutes From Home

Well, I didn't take this 10 minutes from my house, but I figure since I was at someone elses house for the weekend, 10 minutes from their house should count. So, this was taken in Chillicothe, IL, 10 minutes from my friends house. There were so many great buildings and things to take pictures of there, but I think this is my favorite.

looks better full size -- but...

                      Oooh... great subject...
although living on a farm in the middle of the flat flat Canadian prairie... I doubt I will get anything as amazing as Matt Redmayne... but I'll see what I can come up with! Now to decide if I should drive, walk or bike!! although all three will get me pretty much the same view... just different fields of wheat and canola! lol

I took this walking along the shore line of Lake Eufaula on a very hot, sticky day only a few blocks from the house!

Oh I can't participate this week, but will enjoy browsing the posts. I always enjoy the work displayed in the weekly assignments. (I am recovering from surgery and can't walk or drive for 10 minutes yet)

If I could walk 10 minutes I would probably make it to the river, so here is a photo of a couple walking on the flood wall. (not for the assignment).

                              Assignment: 10 minutes from home

I live on a peninsula, so I get water in most 10 minute directions I go in.
This is one of my favourite views, especially when it looks as peaceful as it did on Tuesday when I took it.
The far side is Devonport dockyard, Plymouth. I was trying to catch the mist before it burnt off, and even though it was still quite early (for me) - it had all but gone.
