Arrow Website critique please!

I'm just putting the finishing touches on my shiny new website. I could use some fresh eyes. Does everything make sense? Too much information? Not enough information? Are the images strong? Does everything look right, load correctly? How about the logo? etc.

Everything looks good. The site loads smoothly for me on firefox, no formatting problems jumped at me.

I liked the colours, and plenty of images showing your work. did you organise the images by your preferences? I felt like you had some stronger images further into the slideshows. when i did click through them they loaded quickly though, which is nice. i've ost interest in so many tog websites because their images load too slowly when i try and skip ahead on the slideshows.

is there a reason you have the 'featured' section as opposed to just a portfolio gallery? just curious.

also fanned your page on FB. everyone needs fans.

Thanks for looking. I have a featured session section in addition to the regular portfolio because those sessions had so many photos I liked a lot that I wanted to show them all off, plus apparently conceptually it's all the rage these days.

I tried to organize the galleries more or less with the pics I liked best at the beginning and end of the gallery.

Fanned you back ^_^

ha, i didn't get that webdesign memo. I remember reading something in a couple of different places however about how little time people spend on sites, and my own analytics have borne it out, so i ended up cutting down my galleries to only a dozen or so each, which lead me to cut anything i though was so-so. I'm still using a couple of filler images as far as that goes to keep my numbers there.

and thanks for the mutual love! looking forward to your updates!

The site is, in short, exemplary

My only grip, and it's something that everyone hates, is the copy text used in your "About" section.

"I like wide apertures and lens flare and catchlights and bokeh. I especially like to photograph people.

My first camera was a Kodak Pocket Instamatic 110 in the early 80s. It was awesome. Now I use a Canon DSLR for digital photography, but I remain mildly obsessed with vintage and novelty film cameras: my current collection includes a Holga, a Franka Rolfix, and 4 Polaroids. "

This isn't necessary and, frankly, detracts from the rest of the site.

I dont see the point of a calendar. Thats something you keep to yourself.
Your blog doesnt connect, in any way, to the site. The style is totally different and doesnt fit. It looks and feels cheap. I know for a fact that it's an iWeb template, and that kills it.

The blog doesn't look like my new website because it still looks like my old website.

It's not really clear what part of the about copy kills it...

I agree, for the most part, with Osmosis. I hate sites that are built in all flash, but that discussion has been had, so I won't rehash it here. The only complaint I have is the font size changes in the flash menu bar. The changes in font size makes the menu shifty, and I find it a bit distracting.

Also, I have a question about your logo, you've got what appears to be an antique owl pendant, with the line "modern photography". There's something incongruent about these two concepts. I'd probably change modern to timeless, or classic, or something like that.

Unfortunately I don't have the option of changing the font sizes. The coding of the site is rather hands off.

hibou is French and means owl.

Yeah, that's one of the drawbacks of using bludomain templates.

Right, but what does the antique owl have to do with "modern" photography.
