Hey everyone! I'm hoping to get more serious about my photography but I'm getting caught up on a small detail; the name/watermark.
I know everyone goes with their first and last name with photography at the end but my last name is difficult to pronounce and in the future it might change. And I'll be honest, I think it's boring, but I've included it in the suggestions anyway. So I need some outside viewers to help me out. Let me also note here what I'm hoping to do with my photography. I want the focus of my career to be on high-end fashion photography. So, although I'm not quite at that point yet, I want the name to be able to transition into something edgier/high class [did I just juxtapose myself there?] in the future. Which do you like better of the following: Becky Leung Photography Modoga Photography Bo Yin Photography [Yin pronounced "yeen"] If you have any other suggestions feel free to comment with those as well! Thanks! Becky |

Not everybody goes with "their name" + "photography" - admittedly, lots do, but not all.
I went to a seminar organised by the Royal Photographic Society about working as freelancer and starting your business, and one of the speakers said a few things about the whole name+photography thing, versus the idea of a more "corporate" brand. "So, you start your business, and you're called Dave Williams. You call the business Dave Williams Photography. That's all cool, you pay attention to the business side of things, and the company takes off. You start getting very regular work, and occasionally have to get some help in to do shoots - you call another photographer from your network of trusted professional friends and ask him to do a shoot for you. Your client has paid for Dave Williams Photography, and Mike Jackson turns up to take their photographs. Does that look good? They were expecting Dave Williams. Mike Jackson takes exactly the same high standard of photographs that you would've taken, had you not been busy with another client, but it still doesn't look as good from the client's point of view. But you're still getting regular work, and over the years you build up a very strong client base. Your business is now worth a considerable amount - very satisfying for something you started in your spare time from your living room before you quit your day-job. Your company, with it's client base and turnover is now worth three quarters of a million pounds. You could sell the business and retire, and just take photos for the hell of it. And you're getting on a bit now, retirement would be nice - pay off the house, buy a new car, and be secure for the rest of your life. So who wants to buy Dave Williams Photography? Many other photographers in your area called Dave Williams?" It's just a thought... ![]() As for your list of suggestions, I really like Modoga Photography. ![]() Russ.
