Exclamation umm... portfolio for magazine?

whilst buying somethign through an aution website, i saw the e-mail sign off she was using indicated she editor/producer of three magazines.

i asked simply wether thay had a staff photographer, or used predominantly stock... and that i'm an aspiring photographer and interested in gaining some insiders insight into the industry.

anyway,
she kindly answered my question but said i should feel free to e-mail them some of my work.

one entails beauty, cosmetic surgery and that sort of thing
another is lifestyle/living related (fashion/clothing/cars/wine/food/homestyle)
another is food/lifestyle/dining

would you say linking to this is "ok" ? i want to show my good stuff.. and this is it.
but also not show only the absolute best... but something i can create prettymuch every time.
the watermarks would lead them to my website if they are interested in seeing more...
i'll write a quick line saying some of these images were used for an ad-campaign and the clothing range is now boing sold in *insert names of up-market retail chains*
what would you do?

e-mail just a few as individual (low resolution and watermarked obviously) ?
or
a link to my website and "models" portion of flickr?

any insight appreciated.... as i wouldnt mind doing some freelance work

Candleman, I have no professional or personal experience as a basis for my response, but it would seem to me you would treat it like a cover letter/job resume and tailor/select shots to target the specific magazine(s) rather than link to a group of shots that may or may not appeal to their market segment.

Good luck!

i dont want to come across as desperate ,or begging for a job..
i kindof like the idea of "i do what i do.. and if you like it thats cool.. call me some time"

....

thanks for your input.. i think i'll select specfic shots and e-mail them... maybe
i have a feeling liking to flickr is a bit "amaturish" is thats a word.

Send the best mate, a select few. IMO

Pic editors get loads of people offering them stuff, make your stuff stand out by way of presentation and see how you get on.

I suggest against a PDF.

Your website: add another page if you can, put the ten~ (or whatever, around that number) images on it, link to it. Or anywhere... a SmugMug, etc. something personal, that's all, that can be used to identify with you.

i've created a rather nice looking PDF with 8 of what i consider my best "relevant" images.

all the images and the PDF have my website URL clearly visable..

its all done. ad i believe she's on annual leave today, just like me.. so i want to get in before the stress of a new year kicks in.

The way I got my foot in the door is to try and sell them a feature article (photos and words).

When they see the final product, all good to go... they'll be interested in more than just photos.

It's just a heads up.
