Default Picture CD Pricing

A customer has requested to purchase a CD of all the photos (about 250) after a sitting of her and her husband. I've never sold the images this way because normally the photos are sold separately as actual prints. I have no idea of what to charge this customer for this. If I start doing this with her, then it is likely to set a standard.

Any advice about pricing, etc?

Are you comfortable selling them the files? Have you adequately explained to the couple that it doesn't mean they can do whatever they want?

When I sell the images on a CD like that, it;s usually with commercial clients and I explain very clearly to them that theyre getting usage rights, not ownership. They also pay through the nose, depending on the resolution.

Often I offer a lower resolution CD for a slightly cheaper price with the option to pay extra for high res images.

Assume that she will never buy prints from you and price the CD accordingly.

I price it at $200 for a 2 hr session, though I only give away 20-40 images out of 300+ that I usually shoot. To me it comes down to some $25 per hr including logistics time, which is not bad for a beginner that does not intend to make a living out of photography. I'd have to be charging $400+ if it was a full time job.

id charge MINIMUM $350 for that (thats what i charge)
the more pics - the more they pay.
my photographer for my wedding charged between 500-800 bucks depending on how many photos there were.

I can remember my uncle doing weddings with film. Even if it was only 35mm, we're talking over $1000 for the negatives, often 5-10x that. If it was 120 (an option), it was doubled.

I really appreciate all the feedback and welcome any more. Like I said in the original post, this is the first time doing this.

I have seen that people have been selling the CD's but only after an initial purchase has been made and then the price goes down according to how much they already spent. It seemed like a good idea to me if I was in a position to sell mine I think that is the way I would go about it. Most people are selling the CD's now so you have to make money either before or after I guess. Just a thought.
