Your site looks cool..very clean and a good representation of your work. Are you hoping that it shows up on Google or have you just built it to show potential clients?

I browse with Flash disabled, so it looks like a big screen of nothing to me
I'm sure it looks great to everyone with Flash though???

hahaha, no, flash bugs me, so I have it turned off. It's also turned off in plenty of office environments, so if you're hoping for someone to check out your site in their lunch break at the office you might lose a few punters there. Linux flash support is available these days, but you can bet plenty of users haven't bothered.
That's not to mention anyone using their iphone too, oh and I seem to recall a while back that some of the net books couldn't get flash either, but that might be fixed by now? And yeah, I noticed I could navigate the site, but I still couldn't see any photos. My point is why stop people without it installed looking at your photos, when (without seeing what you've actually got) you can probably do the same thing with ajax?

The problem with a ajax and any other type of dynamic slide show is that you have to hand code in the images. I am using slide show pro and slide show pro director it has this nice backend that I can dynamically add remove and reorder the images the way I want. This saves me time and frustration given keeping content fresh and ever changing. I was a web developer and I agree I hated all flash sites. However my site is not all flash just the slide shows and slide show gallery. ![]() I know I may miss some people but its so far the best site to manage. I got tired of having non flash slide shows for the past 4 years, and having to hand code xml. So I guess I picked a traid off. If they do not have flash they can still contact me read who I am and go see prints gallery, and read my blog.

I think that flash when done correctly is very useful. I do however think that jquey/ajax "photo galleries" are much cleaner, if a bit harder to setup.
You can also do a non flash version of the site... and non java script, pure html... (OUCH!) I've found that a bit of php coding goes a long long way. My current project is to create a gallery based on files in a given folder on the domain. This uses a simple admin page to upload images to said folder, then you set up how many pictures display across and down and also the size of the thumbnail... The next step is for the gallery to display a set width size of the images with EXIF information in a thick box setting. (much like this site does with attached images to posts) a click on the image will bring up the actual file. All of the images are masked with a 1x1 pixel transparent gif so they can't be saved to easily. There are other CMS systems available for photo galleries. most try to be wordy though. I like this flash routine, but flash isn't always the best answer. |

I might try and come up with some sort of flash redirection script. To redirect to a non flash front page and maybe just a simple static gallery. I have written a CMS before. Now days with a Baby, a wife and a full time job I don't have time to do that again.
