Regarding the noise. I think the only way you can get ISO 500 on a D40 is through the Auto ISO feature. This can be handy if you're using the different scene modes, but if you're using any of the manual modes, it can lead to unusuable images if the camera decides you need ISO 1600 to properly expose the shot. If you're going to use Auto ISO make sure you have a maximum sensitivity set low enough that you can still use the images.

I haven't read all the replies to your post so I may be repeating here, but I would ask her other than releasing the images, what is it going to take to make her happy? Make her as happy as you can then just forget about it and don't deal with her any more. If she wants to take it to court I don't see where you'd have a problem.
I have been self-employed as a computer tech for almost 8 years. In that time I've learned that some people cannot be pleased no matter how many hoops I jump through. I also realized that sometimes you just need to part ways with clients as it's not worth the stress and time involved. I had one shocked client tell me "I've never been fired by a contractor" when I told her she needed to find another tech to support her business. Life is too short and you don't need clients like this. Get out from under her as quickly and inexpensively as possible.

#1 - "Friend of a Friend" deals RARELY work out. Count your losses and say buh-bye. The photos YOU took belong to YOU, and especially if they did not PAY you for your time - oh Hell no... do NOT give your originals up so "another photographer" can post process them - no no no no no. Run away as fast as you can. And next time the "friend of a friend" deal comes up, tell them $100 an hour before you even take one single photo. That scares most of them away.
I shot a wedding for a "friend of a friend' last April - 2 hour full Catholic Mass, 4 hour reception - myself and a 2nd photographer. You know what I charged her? $200 for the day. What an IDIOT I was. PLUS, I did all the post-processing, printed her up a full set of 4"x6" proofs, put them in nice albums, and when I delivered them to her, I explained they were MY proofs - she can order reprints from those proofs. You guessed it - never heard from her again. LESSON LEARNED. Last edited by quincyliz; 10-29-2009 at 03:44 PM. |

They should be LUCKY they got such beautiful photos of their children - and if she was taking photos right along side of you - she has enough. Count your losses I say. You do NOT need clients like THAT!

I think your work is incredible. It's sad to hear that the client is being difficult. I think you should offer the relacement prints for the ones she didn't like and then walk away.
I wish I could see the full size originals for the two photos in question but agree that limiting the file size on your galery was a good idea. Keep up the good work! Last edited by timdaniels; 10-29-2009 at 04:59 PM. Reason: typo in title |
