Default Gears for Starting Up as a Casual photographer

Hi guys
Recently I read some threads in this section and started to become interested in having a job as a casual photographer. I'm studying in university as a new international student in Melbourne right now and therefore have not much connection here...
Anyone have suggestion on how to set up my this business?
My other concern is on my gears right now... Can anyone take a look at my gears right now and give suggestion on what should I add? The list is on my signature below
Thx for the advices... Really appreciate it

As an absolute minimum you're going to need one of these.......

More seriously - what kind of photos are you interested in taking?, as that will determine what gear you may or may not need.

What type/types of photography do you want to move into? As far as gear goes, there isn't really a universal gear kit so figure out what you want to do and then look for the specific gear you need to do it. If you want to keep versatile, add another speedlight, some remote triggers, a couple stands, and some umbrellas or softboxes and you should be able to adapt to quite a few different situations.

sorry, I forgot to say that I'm interested in working as casual portrait photographer. You know, just shooting portraits of couple, friend, or some event may be...
Cheers

As an international student, you're bound to run into some problems.

Melbourne does not have such a big spectre for portraiture; those that are done and mostly in larger portrait studios. You can find some people willing to let you handle a job, but the pay won't quite be high and you'll need to show them a portfolio.

Your zenfolio portfolio is all right; your portraits are 'nice' but not spectacular. If you're real keen on working in the area, go for a cheap course, etc.

To be honest, money-wise, you'd be better off looking at stores to work in (Melbourne-wise, anyway)... but if you're really, really keen... go for it.

You might like to get a 85mm.... although your 50mm on D90 equals that 83-85mm focal length.

It's not even a prime! - it's a MF Zoom-Nikkor 1200-1700mm f/5.6~8.0s P ED IF - made to order - yours (at the time) for a touch over USD$100,000
